Clomid confusion - please help!

I have beeb ttc for 1 year now. I have irregular periods but not polycystic overies and all hormone levels regular. My dr prescribed Clomid to help reguarlise my cycle. I first took Clomid 50mg on days 5 - 9 of my cycle and had a period on day 30 meaning that it made me ovulate as intented. My problem however,  is that this cycle the doctor told me to take it on days 2 to 6. I am now on day 35 of my cycle and have still not had a period! I am very confused as I used an OPK on day 13 and it was positive but when I did a pregnancy test on day 28 of my cycle it was negative. I am upset and worried that there is something wrong with me. How can clomid work 1st time and not 2nd? Please help!

Hi,
Thank you so much for getting back to me. This is only my 2nd round of Clomid. For my  first round I did indeed have a scan on day 14 and they saw that I had 3 large follicules that were just about to release eggs for ovulation. I did then ovulate on day 16 of that cycle, giving me a 30 day cycle (Im usually anywhere between 35 - 45 days)
In fact, we live in France and have been recommended for IVF since my husband actually has low sperm motility. While we are waiting to start (normally in April) the doctor said  she may as well prescribe me another round of clomid as she said it had worked so well the 1st time but didnt send me for a scan. The fact that it worked well once is why I am so confused. I am now on day 38 and still no AF! I havent done another test as I was so disappointed by the first one being negative I didnt see the point but I will do one tonight. The tests were just the cheap strip tests that you buy in bulk online so I dont think its particuarly sensitive. However, if it is negative, I just cant understand why the Clomid would work the 1st time but not the 2nd? Any ideas?
Thank you again!!

Hi There,

I too have very erratic cycles some months i can have a normal 28day cycle some 60days so my doc prescribed me Clomid to help regulate me.

I too take Clomid days 2-6, you ovulate about 14days before your period now although Clomid helps you produce better folicules and helps ovulation it is known to throw your period off track!
If you used OPK on day 13 they detect the LH surge which is 48-72hrs before ovulation so maybe you didnt ovulate day 13 but more like day 15-17 and therefore would be too early to test for pregnancy.

Have you tested since day 28? Also was the test sensative because most dont detect the hormone until 50+

Did you have a scan to see how many folicules you produced?

Also Clomid can only ever be used for 6 cycles the docs say if it doesnt work within that time frame it never will..... You should be having scans really because if it isnt helping you then you may need your dose moving up to 100mg, i would defo test again and if negative wait a a few days and if no AF or pos test make an appointment with your doc to see if they can do you a blood HCG.

Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust!!
