Clomid

Hi all -  as this is all new to me I was just wondering if anyone could please shed some light on what Clomid does exactly. Does it increase your LH Levels allowing Ovulation? Is this what the numbers stand for? Ive also heard that it can alter your mood swings being a hormone. Has anyone found this? My husband and I are ttc and have had our first consultation with our gyno/obst. My husband had his tests and all is fine and I have had all of my internal/ external ultrasounds/bloods etc and find out the results this fri. I asked my gyno what the next step would be and he said probably hormones. Im assuming Clomid as I dont appear to be ovulating. I am menstruating relatively regularily now and apparently my uterus and ovarys look ok. One appeared higher and larger and may have cyst but they couldnt confirm and said it appeared generally ok. Thankyou

thank you - as it turns out for the moment I am on Metformin for insulin resistance and Ive just been diagnosed with PCOS unfortunately. Just waiting for my good friend AF so I can start taking it and get the ball rolling.... Ive heard a few yucky things about Clomid too so I hope I dont have to go on it.
All the best with ttc
SSBD  too you.

I have been to a specialist for several months and the first month they gave me treatment it was clomid. They told me I could not take it again because in a small percent of people (5%+/-) it does not work because is thins your lining and the egg will not attach.  I am not an expert just a 30 year old who has spent over $20,000 on this stuff in the last year.

i wonder if thats what he will put me on then? I have felt Im not ovulating at all. i dont know, sometimes i have the cervical mucous or I have the dull ache down there so ill do some Ov tests but then itl come back neg. I know the window is short for when you Ov so we have even done temp charts, Ov tests and had sex everyday for a month a few times and still nothin. dunno - we will see fri i suppose! my dh has also said he can feel when my cervix is down or up so somethings happening there just dunno what.. well as they say everything happens for a reason maybe its just not my time yet, sigh sigh.... bit of a worry about it possibly thinning your uteral lining... they only put you on three months at a time dont they and the lowest dose they think isright for you and then build from there if necessary - is that right? i heard clomid stays in your system for about 45days after you stop taking it and some people fall preg in that time? is that true... lorri

I'm not sure about the lining thing cause different Drs. say different stuff my Dr. told me last Thursday that it wouldn't thin your lining but I'm leaning toward the thought that it does.   I wondered if that could be making me MC a thin lining and he didn't seem to think so.

hi there, i was told by my doc that clomid tricks your body into thinking its not producing enough estrogen and so your body makes more, thus making you kick out more eggs each month instead of just one. he also told me that it CAN make your lining thin....NOT GOOD, and using it over 6 months CAN make you develop cysts that will go away once you stop hopefully.

i used it three months and nothing so i took myself off of it because when i heard about the lining thing, i freaked out.

hope this info helps.....not sure how accurate it is. it came from my regular baby doc who delievered me for my mom, im 32!! lol he is a wonderful person, just not sure how up to date he is! lol!!!

I completely agree with you! iv had the same thing being young at 25... i think it makes you stress more - well, makes me a cranky pants anyway... 20, 25, 45 y/old - doesnt matter! when you are ready for a baby and you realise its not happening and you dont know whats going on it worries you just the same. On a good note though -My gyno/ obst seems lovely and really keen to help us at this point which is good so Ive got my fingers crossed for my results Friday. It will happen for you too - all the best for you and your dh... keep me posted xx

It was my second MC in the past 10 months.  We've been off contraceptives for 4 years TTC about 2 1/2  hard core trying for 1 year.  I hate hearing oh just quit trying and it will happen or quit stressing everything will work out soon as you do.  And worst of all I hate hearing oh you're still young quit worrying.  Yes I'm young but no matter how young I am I'm still having the same problems of women twice my age.  So my advice to you it do stress to an extend the more the do the more you are to research on your own to find a cure for your infertitility and the more apt you are to push your Drs. to find a cure.  good luck and pray that you get your BFP soon.

so sorry to hear you had a mc. thats awful to hear. was it your first (and only) mc i hope? how long have you been trying? We have been off contraception for 4/5 yrs and actively trying for 12 months since we got married. My husband is very fertile and we are awaiting my results, find out friday. I have never had a pregnancy at all. I havent had a proper positive ovulation test reading i dont think either. We are still at the begining of our journey and its alot to learn and take in. I just cant wait, as scared as I am, too find out what it is thats stopping us and what we have to do too conceive. Its nice to have this site to read and post on as we are all at the end of the day no matter what stage we are at, seeking the same thing. I get frustrated with all my friends (who are mothers mostly) telling me too ' just relax ', 'dont think about it/dont stress...' etc etc... They mean well but I could throttle them at times!!! xx

Thanks and I wish you all the luck in the world.....I got so bad I couldn't stand myself on the clomid.   I don't know if I'm going to start taking it again or take some time off.  I just MC last week so I've got a bit of time to think about it before my next cycle.

I'm not real positive what the clomid does scientifically I just know it induces Ovulation.  I have taken it the past 3 months and got a BFP last cycle.  And mood swings are terrible on this for me.  And hot flashes are terrible I don't think they make deoderant strong enough to work for a woman on clomid.  Hope this helps and I wishing you luck.
