Conception and alcohol consumption

TTC for last several months.  I've substantially reduced my alcohol consumption (0-1 glass of wine/night), but DH hasn't.  He tends to drink a bit more than moderately, but drops it a bit on BD days.

I can't convince him to stop or cut back more, but I also don't have any evidence that he needs to.  I've seen research on limiting alcohol consumption when TTC, but nothing conclusive on whether male drinking really affects fertility.  Heavy drinking of course is a problem for other reasons;-)

Any thoughts on this?

We're older too... I'm 40 and he's 36, our birthdays are coming up in June.  I mentioned it to my RE, but DH had a great semen analysis, so he didn't think it was an issue.

Its funny when you tell the DH anythign related to his sperm count and they freak out. I heard my friend's dh bragging for weeks to my dh on how healthy his swimmers are that he got her pregnant within the first month!

Thanks for your comment.  I'm more concerned because we're older (39) and fertility is already compromised.  Yeah, I know people do all sorts of harmful things and still get pregnant.  So it's probably not a big deal.

I agree with Yvette.  It is not suppose to effect swimmers..although I told DH it does.LOL  It isnt fair he can drink and I cant..but it is worth it :O)

I wouldn't worry about it with regard to swimmers.   I dont believe DH alcohol consumption is really a factor.  You more have to worry about if you are pregnant and the drinker.

Think about all the people  that smoke drink and do drugs and still manage to get pregnant and sometimes do it through out pregnancy.

DH makes new sperm everyday.  My DH drinks a lot of beer on a weekly basis, esp if he goes golfing.  Although it irritates me, according to my RE it's not an issue with regard to getting pregnant unless the SA is low, and his is not.
