Donor egg but MMC

Donor egg but MMC

We received 9 eggs from our donor....8 were mature but only 1 fertilised with ICSI using my partners TESE sperm. When we have used my own eggs we have had 100% fertilisation rates but always got BFN's,  and the embryologist told us that the donor had had 'excellent' fertilisation rates with her share of her eggs.....and indicated that the problem lay with my DP's sperm. Anyway, we got a BFP but at our 2nd scan there was no heartbeat and I had had a missed miscarriage.
At our follow up consultation we were told that the majority of miscarriages are due to problems with the EGG!!!!! So, were we just unlucky with our donor???? He then went on to say that he couldn't rule out my DP's sperm completely as TESE sperm is immature. Confused.com!

You know...I had a miscarrage (miscarriage) and many women have it...I was told by multiple doctors that it just happens and it doesn't mean the EGG is bad or the sperm. In fact, if you had one this type, you will rarely get this type of m/c again, so I would try again with the same egg and sperm. I honestly don't think that your m/c has anything to do with either, just chances. I am sure that if you got BFP once, you will get it again and this time, the baby will develop

I am so sorry to hear that you had problems with your donor. Did you do a program with money back guarentee? Do you get to try again with new donor I hope.
I am not sure what DP means, I assume it's your husband.  Did he have it tested prior to doing this cycle?  What did they recommend next cycle?

I am hoping to do DE & have appt on 11/8.  I am sooo nervous.

Miscarriages can happen for a variety of reasons.  Unless they test the tissue, you might never know.  When I had a miscarriage they tested the tissue and it showed there was a chromosomal abnormality.  But I was 41.  I would think if your donor is young, the chances of it being due to a bad egg are slim.  But if it happens again (hope not) then I'd defniitely ask to have the tissue tested if possible..it's helpful to know!

Thank you ladies. My partner has had chromosome testing on his sperm and it came back as normal. He is not a CF carrier either. However, TESE sperm is notoriously immature. I just can't understand how it managed to fertilise my 40 year old eggs yet didn't fertilise eggs from a donor under 30???? Here in the UK the donor is anonymous so I can't find out whether she got a BFP from her share.....or had a MC. I worry that maybe we were given a donor who had a history of MC's and decided to try IVF. We used our saving to pay for the cycle and I know I shouldn't but I kind of felt that DE was our 'golden ticket' to a baby. Proved me wrong! Our cons told us that 85% of mc's are caused by an egg problem, 7-9% by a sperm problem and the rest due to implantation/uterus problems.
Kricket212...sadly no money back guarantee here in the UK. Good luck with your DE cycle. The waiting lists here are long...what are they like there? We were told if we could find a donor ourselves we could start a cycle straight away but my sister is pregnant and wants a 2nd straight away and all my friends are in their 40's now.
Allip77...we have been advised to try another cycle with my eggs and have Array CGH where they test the embryo at blast stage. Here in the UK they won't test miscarriage material unless you have had recurrent. We asked if the pathologist could test the fetus but they said no :-(
Anya...I hope you are right.
Thanks again xxx

That makes sense to use your own eggs since the m/c with donor eggs indicate your issue is probably not your eggs...that's good news!  I'm sure they will figure it out soon and help you get your baby!!  Best of luck.  BTW, I think I might've lucked out that my doctor sent my tissue in for evaluation after only 1 miscarriage.  Now that I think about it, it doesn't seem too common in US either.
