FInally I have an official diagnosis!! & Metformin advice???

After years of me thinking I have PCOS I was finally diagnosed with it today.  They did an u/s of my ovaries and so a whole lot of follicles (a pretty string of pearls they call it)  and they also said my ovaries were "fluffy" weird but yes thats how they described them. so now my doc will finally put me on metformin and i'm starting it tomorrow morning!!!  Any advice on the drug? I hear it can cause GI upset so take with food.  Anything else? I've heard some women with PCOS actually loose weight on the drug???true??? also if we were to get pregnant would i continue to stay on metformin the whole pregnancy? and what about after the pregnancy? I've heard it can decrease your cysts so they aren't painful.  if that is the case sign me up to be on it the rest of my life!!! i get very painful cysts :(

thanks for the help

SSBD into the new year.

Have faith for 2011!!!

Hi!  I have taken metformin on and off for the last decade.  Kinda been thrown around with diagnoses first pre-diabetes, and now with somewhat PCOS.  Never a firm diagnosis of anything really!  They did an u/s and said my ovaries are normal size so they aren't positive I have PCOS.  I think it might all be because I'm overweight!  So they've put me on metformin a few times and I've also asked for it a few times to see if it will help.  I've never really had success with it.  I didn't really have bad side effects from it as far as digestive.  And as I'm sure you've heard, if you eat fatty or sugary foods, or get really full, basically anything that will make your body want to produce more insulin, you will have digestive problems.  Which is helpful with losing weight!  It makes you not want to eat those things because of the side effects.  But it didn't help regulate my cycles, or lose weight.  I don't know if it helped with ovulation as I haven't been monitoring that until I got married 2 years ago, and haven't been on metformin during that time.  I did finally lose about 25 lbs this last year and that helped me to start ovulating regularly.  I guess the rule is if you can drop at least 10% of your body weight it greatly decreases your symptoms.  I don't know if that helped at all!  Good luck, I hope it works for you!

I was diagnosed officially last year tried Metformin couldn't take the side effects. Tried the liquid form Riomet.  If you can stomach the the taste.  After researching Fertileaid for over a year, I made my first purchase this month and started it 12/22.  It is suspose to be the top for regulating your cycle, balancing out your hormones, and most of all, helping women to conceive.  This is my last hope, we have been TTC for 6 yrs.

I will keep you posted.
