Failed IVF cycle-pregnancy test negative

I just finished my second cycle of IVF (first one was IUI) with no positive results.  The retrieval procured two embryo's (grade 3-accroding to the embryologist) that were 8 and 6 divided by the 3rd day of transfer.  I have great pictures with minimal fragmnetation.  I just found out via PT that it was negative.  There is not much literature specifying why implantation doens't occur.  What went wrong?  I have two teenage daughters and am trying again at 44 to concevie for my new husband who is 34 and does not have children.  If the embryo quality is a factor discussed in increasing the odds with donor eggs why are the odds so little with my own if they were of good quality?  The doc stated that we had been through the most difficult stage yet no pregnancy!  Very disheartning.

Hi beb, sorry to hear your sad news, Iike 40smama said, I too can only share my experience, I am 48 yrs old, and have had an IVF with donor cycle on 9/15 and am on the 2ww!! But, you may have more hope - as I had a natural pregnancy at age 45 which m/c at 16wks - and after that I have have 2 IVF's with my own eggs, again m/c at 12wks and 14wks.  The IVF was done in Germany and Dubai - they had done a test, to check the Ovarian reserve fertility tests - evaluation of egg quantity and quality.  At 45, I had a very good chance - and I did get the result positive, only to m/c. So have a look at this website, http://www.advancedfertility.com/testovar.htm - and ask your RE for some tests, and I wish you all the best for the future! Hope this will help you! there are no guarantees at all - I know women who have got pregnant during their menopause!! and our biological clock keeps ticking - Good Luck for the future!!

Hi - I wish there were some good answers for you because you have excellent questions.  I won't pretend to know all of the answers except to share w/you a little of my own experience.  I'm also 44, dh has no biological children yet our 1st ivf failed because my ovaries failed to respond adequately to the stimulation.  So dh and I went w/donor eggs.  It was explained to me that the quality of the embryo would be much, much higher w/a younger woman's eggs plus the chance of miscarriage would be significantly decreased (also because of the quality of the embryo) after implantation had occurred.  There is a lot of research in the area of egg quality for older women and if you look back at the archives in the ask a doctor forum, he does talk a lot about egg quality in older women which I hope you will find relevant.  I'm so sorry that your ivf failed and hope that you get some answers that make sense to you about why the cycle failed.  Take care!
