Fluctuating follicle size??....What the....

I don't know what to think any more.  Today is CD9.  On CD7 according to RE I had 3 14mm follicles on my left side and a bunch of small ones on the right. I thought it was very good news this early in the cycle.  I was expecting that today they will be bigger.  I had appt this morning and a different RE was on duty.  He said that on the left I had 3 follicles 12mm.  I asked him how come the other guys said they were 14mm 2 days ago.  His answer was that sometimes follicles can fluctuate.  That's just BS.  I think the first guy didn't measure they properly in the first place.

Has anyone heard of this?

Hello,
So today is CD11 I had another u/s this am.  I have 1 follicle 13cm and one 14.  I seems that they are growing very slowly this month.  And I was hoping to do IUI on Wednesday.  Now I'm just hoping to have it by end of this week.  I'm leaving on Monday on a business trip.

I'm just so so tired or all of this.  I'm going back for u/s on Wednesday.  The way things are going I will run out of meds this month and will have to order more.

Thank you both.  I'm going back on Monday will see what they say then.
For now they told me to start using OPK just in case.

That seems rather strange if you ask me.  I'm certainly no expert in this field, but I don't think the follicles are supposed to fluctuate in size (like you said, I think that's BS).

There is a very good chance that either one of the RE's measured incorrectly.  If you watch them measure it up on the u/s screen, all they're doing is "drawing" a line from one side to the other, then doing another line that crosses it to find the estimated size of your follicle.  It seems that this method certainly has some room for error (human error, that is).  I'd say don't let it bother you... the next time you go in I'm sure you'll see the follicles increase in size.

Good luck!

Hi "Lexima",
I don't have an answer for you but wanted you to know I'm thinking about you and hoping the best for you this month!  It would seem though if you're on CD 9 and the follicles are 12mm then there is still time for them to develop further before ovulation.  I hope all goes well for you!
