Good timing

This is the first time I've truly ovulated in nearly a year.  My fiancee and I had sex on that exact day of ovulation (6/24).  Was our timing off to conceive or was it right on the money?  If so, how long do I have afterwards to find out if it worked this time.  I've been told you can tell almost the very next day if you conceived and some 5 days after and some not at all.  Is there any definitive way to tell aside from the obvious no AF and morning sickness?

Its best to have sex the day before ovulation so that the sperm will make it there right when the egg is released becouse the egg only lives for about 24 hours. But you still have a good chance conceiving. Once the egg has been fertilized it doesnt attach to the walls until the time of your next cycle. Thats when the test will detech the pregnancy hormone.
