HSG for blocked fallopian tubes

gno
I had an HSG done 6 years back wherein no blockages were found in the fallopian tubes. I had a child immediately after that. Recently i had an ectopic pregnancy and one of my tubes had to be removed. Is it necessary to have an HSG again for the remaining tube, if i want to go in for another child

It could cause an ectopic or it could cause infertility.  If there is no blockage it shouldn't be that painful.  I remember feeling a sharp cramp, but it only lasted for second and that was it.  RE said if you have blockage the discomfort increases.

I'm not sure what I would do in your situation, but my initial instinct is to tell you to do anything you have to do, to protect your remaining tube.

Which ever you decide, best of luck to you.

Oh and another benefit to doing the HSG, is that it will take the wondering away and lessen the fear of another ectopic.

I recently had my tube removed for an ectopic pg.  I had an HSG done about 6 months before that and they were clear, so I don't think it was due to any kind of blockage.  During my surgery to remove the right tube they checked the condition of my other tube.  Your dr might have done the same thing?

Best of luck to you.

My doctor did suggest an HSG. I have been through it before and the experience was very painful. So what i really wanted to know is that if i go ahead without checking whether there is blockage in the right tube (the only one remaining) and there happens to be an obstruction in the tube would it cause another ectopic pregnancy?

Your obgyn should be able to answer this question and if you have been TTC without luck, I would definitely ask, they will probably send you right onto a RE since you have only the one tube if I am understanding this correctly and personally I think they would send you for a HSG and test your DH to make sure all is well with you both, and as yucky as tests are, if the results are good, they put your mind at rest and well if they find a problem at least your RE can plan from there.

For me because there was so much time between having my first child 4 /12 years ago and knowing I have been trying for so long with two miscarriages, they wanted me to go for a HSG as soon as possible to rule out any problems, it turns out one of my tubes are blocked and as difficult as that one is to swallow, at least I know there is a problem and a reason that I am not getting pregnant and with my RE we can come up with a plan of action.

Good Luck.
