Help understanding Day 3 levels

Hi,

I am 34 (almost 35) and my Day 3 levels came back as:

LH: 6.8
FSH: 13.8
Estradol: 25

My doc says these are normal but from experience with friends and their test results, 13.8 seems very high.  Can anyone help?

BabyBlue07 is right. An FSH of 13.8 is not normal. With an FSH of 13.8, you have some diminished ovarian reserve. When your doctor says this is "normal" he/she probably means for your age. While your hormone levels will vary from month to month, usually the HIGHEST FSH is most indicative of your true ovarian function. Just to clarify my qualifications, I am a hospitalist physician, who also struggled with the same problem. In addition to speaking with many IVF physicians and friends, I also read a lot of literature (not just websites).

I started trying to get pregnant at 27, and when I went to the infertility MD at 28, my FSH on day 3 was anywhere from 10-14.5. I did 2 months of clomid, 7 months of follistim with IUI's and 2 IVF cycles (and one of the IVF cycles was done in a month when my FSH was 7, but studies show that it doesn't matter)... I never got pregnant. I always did produce follicles, but for the IVF cycles I only ended up with 4 and 8 mature eggs, and only 2 embryos each time (we did ICSI). Each time, both embryos were impanted, and I never got pregnant.

It wasn't until I started taking DHEA 25mcg twice daily for 2 months and was getting ready to fly out to Colorado (as CCRM has the #1 IVF program in the country) for our last IVF cycle, that I got pregnant on my own, at the age of 30. In August 2008 I had a perfectly healthy little boy.

You are going to have a struggle, but I think it's worth doing all the meds and testing, and you do have a shot at a baby, but I would push for IVF sooner rather than later if you can afford to do so. Once your FSH gets over 20, most centers won't do an IVF cycle. I think you have to be positive and take it one day at a time. Good luck. :)

Yes, but the rest of the info says:

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)  Day 3  3-20 mIU/ml FSH is often used as a gauge of ovarian reserve. In general, under 6 is excellent, 6-9 is good, 9-10 fair, 10-13 diminished reserve, 13+ very hard to stimulate. In PCOS testing, the LH:FSH ratio may be used in the diagnosis. The ratio is usually close to 1:1, but if the LH is higher, it is one possible indication of PCOS.

NO, the average for FSH is 3 - 20.  If you are 13.8, it's normal because it's in the range of (3-20),

go to this link and read more about this:

Hope this help.
