Highrisk?

How many miscarriages would a woman have to have before the doctor considers her a highrisk pregnancy?

I am going to take the blood test that if positive will result in a blood thinner.  i have 2 kids, but following theem I had 2 MC's in a row last year.  I requested that I be tested for this.  Any insight?

I think the number of times is 3.  I have had 2, and my ob/gyn sent me to a fertility specialist.  The fertility specialist then told me that I didn't need a fertility specialist until I had at least 3 miscarriages.

3 or more is considered recurrent miscarriage, so most docs won't refer you to fertility specialists until then UNLESS there is another reason (age, other medical condition, etc.)  You are not considered high risk at just 2, statistically that's not really abnormal.

I know its hard though...I've had 3 m/c but am now 40.  My doc wanted to refer me to specialist after 2 ('cause I was 39 a the time), but it was the 3rd that ultimately got me to fertility specialists.

Also, not sure previous miscarriages mean you are high risk, just you may have a higher chance of another miscarriage.  Once you have a successful pregnancy, you probably aren't really a "high risk" case unless you are older or have concurrent med problems.

I don't know if this helps any but I once read that the avergae woman has an average of 10 miscarriages in her lifetime without even knowing it (early miscarriages) and that this is quite normal.  Apparently these days we do know about more of them simply because testing has improved and we know we are pregnant earlier than we used to.
Good luck to all.

Thanks - I am nevrous every moment of every day and will continue to be until I'm holding a little person in my arms!  I was fortunate that they found what the issue was and there is a simple treatment - the baby aspirin.  Good luck to you!

At age 31 I had two early term miscarriages back to back. I freaked out in my dr's office with the 2nd one and said I didn't want to be going through fertility testing or whatever for the next 4 years that if there was a problem I wanted to know. I am healthy and so is my husband - neither of us had ever had problems that would have led me to believe there was a reason for the miscarriages.  I'm not sure if my hysterics had anything to do with it, but my referred me on.  I have heard that three is the magic number.  For me - When I had the 2nd one in a row for no good reason - I flipped out.

The good news is - at the clinic where I was referred, they ordered a bunch of tests - found a blood issue for which I take baby aspirin - and I'm now 30 weeks pregnant.

Thank you for the reply. I have had two already and I am affraid if I were to ever get preg. again then it would possibly end with the same results :( I thought two was a large number too but according to my dr. he doesn't think so.

Dont quote me, but I believe it is 3.  My doctor told me that 2 is not considered to be out of the ordinary, as horrible as that is. My suggestion is to find a doctor that will give you the care you need, someone that will work to put your mind at ease regardless of whether or not THEY think you are high risk.
