You might be surprised by what your insurance will cover if you go to a place that accepts your insurance. I was completely confused by my insurance because in the benefits booklet is says it doesn't cover assisted reproduction or supplies associated with it. This was confusing because in the list of doctors it has fertility doctors.. I thought why would they have fertility doctors listed if they don't cover it. Well they do cover it, they just don't cover the charges specifically for IUI or IVF but they still cover all the dr visits and ultrasounds. I'm not saying your insurance is like this, but it is worth looking into.
Not necessarily, but it is always better to at least be relaxed. It has been shown that being stressed/unhappy decreases your chances of conceiving. However, people who are stressed all the time get pregnant all the time too. Just try to be as relaxed a syou can and take it easy.
We have insurance bt place where I go doesnot accept that insurance and anyways infertility is not covered under insurance. my doc chrges me $500 for 1 insemination and $800 if they do 2 insemination per cycle plus each ultrasound cost me $315 they do 2-3 ultrasound just to see if everything is ok and then some bloodwork on ur day 12 & injectibles. so all this add up to almost 2000 per IUI even I think this is too expensive
bt since this place is on my way to work and close to house we preferred going there.
i am really looking forward to my 2nd IUI which is next week.
BTW does it really matters that when they do IUI you should be calm and in good mood that helps you to conceive better???
I pay $500 for the IUI procedure but my cisits are covered. The meds are now out of pocket though. I would try a few more injectable IUI cycles before moving onto IVF which is much more expensive and much more invasive as the other ladies have said. Good luck!
I agree with Helen and Tanker Chic. $2,000 is a lot, but I assume that includes injectable medication. Otherwise that would be very high! I pay $260 for the actual IUI procedure (included sperm wash). The office visits are covered for some reason, even though I don't have fertility-related insurance. However, I didn't find that out until I had already gone to my RE for a few months, and I used to pay $100 per visit before using my insurance card. The injectables are expensive, though, so I can see that adding up if you're using that. I think Tanker Chic has a good point. If it's $2,000 a month, it might not be worth doing too many IUIs, since the cost would quickly add up to the amount you would pay for IVF anyway. Best of luck to you!
I pay $300 for the IUI but my insurance covers the cost of all the ultrasounds and dr visits. Which all that can really add up. It took me 3 IUIs to get pg with my son. This time around, I just got a positive test after my 4th IUI, but I don't know if it is a viable pg yet.
To answer your question, I think it depends on the cost of the IUI. For me IUI is relatively cheap, so I will give it more tries. If it were $2000, I would limit the number and move onto IVF.
$2000 is a crazy price to pay for an IUI. My ob charges $250. Most people pay between $200 and $300 per IUI.
We did 3 IUIs before moving to ivf. I think that most people try 3 medicated IUIs (with clomid or injectables) before going to ivf. IUIs are not as invasive as ivf and MUCH cheaper!
Good luck!
