I went through IVF with ICSI almost 2 years ago. My husbands sperm analysis results weren't great at all. Very low on all things they look at and his sperm had an extremely low movement rate. Thank goodness for it because we now have 14 month old twins. :)

I did ICSI as well for my IVF likely due to my age I suppose. I was glad they did it...I came up pregnant the first time. It's just a small part of the process, like Heather has stated.

Well, ICSI is just a very small part of the IVF cycle (ICSI basically just refers to the fertilization process where each egg is individually injected with a healthy sperm...as opposed to a regular IVF, where the eggs and sperm are left to fertilize on their own). I had an IVF cycle (no ICSI) almost three years ago now, and the process basically runs over two months. The first month, is to suppress your ovaries. Most women will be on lupron during this month and many will also be on birth control. Then, once your ovaries are fully suppressed and you start a new cycle, you'll start the follicle stimulating hormones. You'll be monitored every few days while on the meds, and once the follicles are mature (usually after about 10 days of meds), you'll get a trigger shot, and retrieval will be scheduled about 36 hours after that. The retrieval will be done under full anesthesia, and you'll get an update after the procedure on how many eggs were retrieved. After that you'll probably get daily updates on how your embryos are doing. Then transfer will take place either 3 or 5 days after retrieval. Once transfer has taken place, you'll be on progesterone supplements (and probably also estrogen) to mimic a natural cycle until your pregnancy test; and if pregnant, you'll continue the supplements until about 10-12 weeks pregnant. Hope that helps! Best of luck with everything!
