IVF -- Stopping PIO shot at 6 weeks?

Hi,

I am currently 6w2d pregnant w/twins after IVF. Today my RE called and said my progesterone was 170 and I could stop my daily PIO shot. Do you think it's too early?

Also, I do have a weekly hydroxyprogesterone that she said I could do for peace of mind. Think I should just do that, stop completely or keep on w/my daily?

I've been reading and most women don't stop for a number of weeks past where I'm at....

Thanks in advance!

Thanks mamom and whittfred! I decided to go with the weekly P17 shot. It's 250mg and my PIO shot is 50mg. I started the P17 on Sunday and I go in on Thursday for a blood test to make sure my levels haven't dropped. Hopefully everything will be good! I was nervous about stopping the daily shot, but thought having my P4 that high might not be good! Hopefully the P17 will keep me above 35 at least until Thursday so I can move back to the daily as needed.

Thanks again for your insight on this. Very much appreciate it!

No, my levels are good but I was told to continue taking the progesterone shots until the placenta takes over to reduce the chances of miscarrage.  Every RE has different protocols.

Hi,  I am 20 weeks pregnant.  I was never on progestrone shots.  I took vaginal inserts.  After 6 weeks I had very slight bleeding so at 8 weeks I requested my RE if  could stop because I would notice the bleeding only after I took the vaginal inserts.  My RE approved it and I stopped at 8 weeks.  I had no problems from stopping.  I don't remember what my progesterone levels were but I believe they were good.

Hi,

I may ask about the vaginal. I do have a weekly P17 shot that they said I could do for peace of mind. I have heard of women switching to vaginal suppositories like Prometrium. My RE said stopping cold turkey is fine, but I've read that others like to wean. I wouldn't stop cold turkey, but that's just me.

Thanks!!

Thanks for your response. Do you know what your progesterone levels are? I'm just wondering whether yours are still low and that's why your RE wants you to continue. I could understand if my levels were >35. But they are 170. However, I am still hesitant about stopping. I have the P17 shot which is given to women around 18 weeks to stop preterm labor. That would be additional supplementation, but I am not sure how much progesterone that produces. I don't know what to do!!

Thanks for your input.. very much appreciated!

What about switching to vaginal progesterone? Do people wean or abruptly stop progesterone injection?

I am 10 weeks  and my RE told me not to stop my injections for another 6 days because I would lose the pregnancy.  I have decided to continue to take my injections until the end of my first trimester and my RE said that she does not see anything wrong with that.
