Hi!  Thank you for your "novel".  Your story had the happy ending we all want and I am comforted to know that I am not the only one going through this as few people write about donor ovule experiences.  I'm scheduled for the transfer during the first half of May.  Please think about why you only transferred one embryo because if there are two, at this time I plan to transfer 2 (but not 3).    I can understand not wanting to see a current photo of the donor but at least a childhood photo.  How did you pick a donor on medical / health history?  Anyway, is there any advice at all you would give me?  What clinic did you use?  Did you do acupuncture or similar to "help" you?  I did acupuncture with my only IVFICSI, which didn't work so I don't know about the acupuncture route.  Anything that comes to your mind between now and May, please let me know!  Thanks millions!  I'm so happy for your healthy, baby boy!   Bravo!

Sorry I read this so late - I tried IVF w/my own eggs which was cancelled the day before retrieval due to lack of ovarian stimulation - couldn't get those little follies big enough to justify going through retrieval.  Because of my age (43 at the time), the re encouraged us to do IVF w/donor eggs because of my age.

We picked out the donor ourselves based solely on medical/social histories - we never saw a pic of the donor although i had an image in my mind.  Because of some stupid mix-up, we didn't get started until 4 months after we picked the donor.

What we did first was start w/birth control pills to synchronize my cycle w/the donor's.  I also began Lupron shots to suppress my ovaries.  Or did I do the Lupron first??  Can't remember - anyway around cycle day 7 or 8, I began estrogen patches to build up my uterine lining.  It's been a while so forgive me if I've forgotten some details.  We did weekly pelvic u/s's to check uterine lining.  I also did Estrace estrogen pills vaginally to aid the process.

On retrieval day, my husband gave a sperm sample and I began the lovely PIO (progesterone in oil) injections which I was to continue for about 6 weeks.  5 days after retreival, we transferred only one embryo - I don't know if I recommend this but at the time that was what we were encouraged to do.  The embryologist and re gave us an 85% chance of success.

We went into the dreaded 10 day wait - uuggghh - which is when I discovered this forum which saved my sanity.  The night before the beta, I did a home pregnancy test (ClearBlue Digital) which was positive - YEAH - and the next day I got a positive pregnancy test w/a beta number.  Three days later, we repeated the beta test & progesterone one.  We continued the beta testing until I reached over 2,000 & then we only checked the progesterone until I 'graduated'.

At 7 weeks, the first u/s was performed which revealed a healthy sac, fetal pole w/a heartbeat of 144.  At our 'graduation' u/s, the re performed it and she got the baby to move around - she predicted 'boy' and she was right on the money!  We then went to an ob & went through an uneventful pregnancy except for constant nausea and delivered via c-section.

Sorry to write this novel - pm me if you have any questions - sorry about the chicken pox stuff.  That's not fun but hopefully it'll resolve itself quickly!!! - jen

Congratulations on your baby boy!!!   So you are again proof that donor ovules really work ;)-    This was a hard decision for me (and curiously almost more so for my husband because he wants someone just like me???!) but it isn't anymore because we want a baby and all the stats and science point to this route with the great help of ovule donors.

My DH and I have been to IVFNJ and back (we left a little over 2 weeks after getting the bfn from the IVFICSI).  Even before the week was out the IVFNJ clinic had us a donor!  We were floored as we expected to have to wait 4 to 6 months!  We loved her from the first second we saw her baby picture.  I looked at her and cried.  I really liked Dr. Rosenberg, the woman who makes arrangements with the donors and selects them for you.   I think she is a "sharp cookie" as they say and both my DH and I feel really good about her choice.   I do not want to see an actual, present, photo of the donor because I think I would always have a picture of her face in my mind as if she were ever-present.  They did additional blood work on me and found out that I am not immune to the Chicken Pox so I've already had the first vaccination and have to wait 6wks for the next so this is a set-back in time (gosh, if it is not one thing, it is another!).    Can you tell me a little more about all that you have been through?  Did you do an IVF with your own ovules?  How many donor cycle did you go through?  Are there any caveats you can think of that would help me?  We did our first and only cycle in Spain and I would say to all "be on top" of your own cycle!  We were and everything went fine (except getting pregnant) but here you have to be and it is stress on top of stress. There is other advice that I would give for an IVFICSI but since I haven't been through a donor cycle I don't have any idea of the details, etc.  Could you share your experience with me?  As many details as you can give, I will certainly appreciate them!  Thanks!  Fiona (This is not my real name but it one I like a lot! ;) Hmmmm.

I am 42 and after 4 mc decided to go through the egg donor program.  I'm going through a clinic in NY.  I was going to have my mock cycle in February but have to get a fibroid removed so that might push it back a month.  I can't wait to get started!

Hi!  Did you use donor ovules?  I see you use "40smama".  Thanks for the site address!   I really kinda wanted to talk with people who had already been recipients of donor ovules or had gone to IVFNJ.  But thanks again for the information!!!

No question is stupid ;) Yes, it is using donor eggs to become pregnant.  There are few forums about this and since I am going to go through a program (use donor eggs and hopefully become pregnant!) and I wanted to know other people's experiences, especially with the clinic I will be using.  I am 43 and just underwent my only IVF - negative, so my ovules are what they call "old" and using donor ovules is about the only way to have a baby from here on out.

I live on the other side of the nation (New Mexico) so I don't have an answer for you but I did google New Jersey donor eggs and came w/this website:  http://www.ivfnj.com/.  There are dozens of other websites but at least this'll give you a start - good luck!
