I am also about to start this drug. My doctor told me to take all 10 tablets on day 4. Is this normal?
I am suppose to start my next week also. My dr precribed me 5mg. And yes i think we should keep eacthother updated. Goodluck to you.
I have been unsuccessful using Clomid, and I am to start Letrozol (a.k.a. Femara) on cd 3-7 as well. It is an ovulating-induction agent similar to Clomid, but it has been shown that it it may work better due to its shorter length of action and lack of negative effects on the cervix and uterine lining. Clomid can thin your uterine lining, wheras this won't.
It works by temporarily blocking the enzyme that produces estrogen, which causes and increase of FSH and LH, thereby enhancing follicle development. This drug is usually used as a treatment for women with breast cancer, with fertility being an "off-lable" use, according to the FDA. But, it is considered totally safe to use as long as you don't take it AFTER becoming pregnant (like the others said).
I haven't started it yet, but I have heard the average dose is 2.5 to 5 mg a day cd 3-7 or cd 5-9. I am looking forward to starting on this, as I only produced one follicle on Clomid and no BFP yet. I hope you stay in touch so we can compare notes on how this works. I should be starting on it early next week.
Hope this helps, and SSBD to you!!!
Letrozole is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that letrozole is known to harm an unborn baby. Do not take letrozole if you are pregnant
my dr told me to start it on day 3 of my period through day 7 and she said to have sex 14,16,18 and then come in and get my levels checked.
I also had success with this medication. I was on clomid for a year and it didn't work. I started the femara (letrozole) and got pregnant my second cycle on it. We also did the trigger shot and an IUI. But it did work for us! And we'd been trying for 6 years! I am currently 14 weeks along. Good luck to you, and I hope it works as well for you as it did for us!
Yes in fact I took letrozole last April. I did ONE cycle with ultrasound monitoring of the follicle and an HCG trigger when the follie was ripe and got pregnant on the first try!!!!!! (I never did try clomid, this was my first cycle with any "help"). And in fact I am going in TOMORROW for a c-section and birth of the baby!!!!
Letrozole is like clomid but works in a different way, therefore even if clomid did not work for you letrozole could. The only thing to keep in mind is that it does cause birth defects IF taken when your are ALREADY pregnant so be sure your doc checks you out thoroughly via ultrasound before taking this drug. The half life is very short though so if you take it on days 3-7 it will be gone by the time implantation occurs. Best of luck - if it worked for me it can work for anyone!!!!
