Low progesterone at 5weeks and NERVOUS!!

Low progesterone at 5weeks and NERVOUS!!

After trying to get pregnant for 4 years and trying EVERYTHING. I am pregnant! 5 weeks 2 days to be exact. I just got my blood work from yesterday back and my progesterone was low. It was 14.2. They treat for anything under 15 so i am starting suppositories. My HCG level was 286 which i have nothing to compare it to so not sure if that is low or not. I go back friday to make sure it is going in the right direction. Has anyone had or know of someone who had to take these suppositories or have low #'s and still went on to have their baby? I am freaking out and soo upset. Any advice would help.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

I took progestrone with my first pg and all went ok. I was able to stop around 9 weeks since the plancenta takes over from there, so I was told. However, I did read that if you have a true issue with low progesterone, then you might be on supplements until the 3rd trimester.

It is standard after an IUI cycle to be placed on progestrone so that is why I was on the supplement with my first pg.  I am currentlly taking progesterone and I am 6 weeks but I started the day after the IUI.  Again, standard protocol for my RE to do this.

Keep us posted on what your HCG is Friday. Don't focus too much on the number, just the movement.

Do you remember what your progesterone level was? I had to take progesterone for my iui's and ivf's but i never got a positive pregnancy test. This time the pregnancy just occurred. No iui, ivf, meds or doctor or anything. So I'm not really sure what my levels should be. Some sites say as long as its about 10 that is normal and others say 18 is the magic #. Mine was 14.2. My doctor told me anything below 15 is treated with progesterone and that is why i'm getting those suppositories.

My doctor likes it to be above 15.  They would still probably put me on supplements at 14.2.  I started progesterone (200mg at night) a few days after IUI.  I am 8 weeks 3 days today and my progesterone has been steady in the 30's and 40's.  They told me I could get off of it, but I'm going to stay on until around 12 weeks, probably.

You aren't SUPER low, and I wouldn't worry too much.  What is your prescribed dosage?

Above 15 is what my doctor said too. They put me on 200mg each night too. Im not bleeding or spotting or anything so I am taking that as a good sign. I will just have to hope it is working. I feel pregnant. Very tired at around 2:00 everyday to the point I've HAD to nap some days. Also very sore chest and a little nauseous at times. I can't wait to go back to the doctor next week to find out my levels. Hopefully they will be nice and high like yours! Thanks again for all of the help. Are you having any symptoms? You are about 3 weeks ahead of me. It is nice to have someone who is just gone/going through this. Thanks!

Every now and then I have some nausea, mainly at night.  Other than that, sore boobs off and on and pretty exhausted.  Some cramping every now and then in my legs and hips.

When are they going to test your progesterone again?  You should get it tested about 3 days after your last test.

I have to wait until Monday. 3 days would have been friday but they are closed for the holiday weekend. I am very much looking forward to seeing my levels rise. I HOPE!!!

It was my understanding that this early in the game progesterone doesn't matter.  It's the HCG levels that do.  And as long as they double every 48 hours then you should be fine.  Progesterone doesn't take over until the HCG levels start going down again at about 10 weeks.

My doctors office called and they are going to have a nurse there tomorrow so i can go in the morning to get my blood taken. So pretty soon i will know if my levels are going up!!

progesterone will keep the fetus alive until the placenta kicks in.

Progesterone is one of the most important parts of early pregnancy.  With low progesterone the chance of the baby surviving is not very high.  The placenta takes over around 10 - 12 weeks and progesterone levels aren't as important.

I'm glad you're going back in!  This way they'll know if they need to up your dose or not....
