Only 1 embryo made it to freeze out of 12 ????

Has anyone had a simliar experience with thier embryo's not making it to freeze? My dh and I were devastated when we found out that only 1 out of 12 embryos made it to freeze....we thought we were so lucky that we had such a good cycle with so many embryos and we would be able to do a fet if the fresh cycle didn't work....omg!!!  Is there something wrong?? Should we be researching this?? I am on ivf #2 now....unfortunelty that cycle didn't work....we had alot of high quality embies....5- 8cell a few 7 cell 3- 6 cell and so on...we transferred 2 8 cell on day 3...doctor even said we may want to transfer just 1..anyway maybe it's age..I'm 39...unfortunetly we dont get to see the doctor very often due to the way the clinic is run so my cycle failed and I just called nurse and said I wanted to start right away and here I am....I am very worried about this and wondering if this is very abnormal...

hi i had 2 fresh ivf cycles which both failed, i had just one embryo frozen, which i had put back yesterday so this will b my 3rd. but with this embryo it was lucky to survive the thawing process, and i was told it was top grade and a 2 cell... hopefully it is a strong little embryo and will result in a pregnancy, my test is due on the 22nd of april.... keep positive, its the only way... good luck

I never have any frozen embryos.  On my fiftth cycle, I got 20 eggs, 12 fertilized, transfer 8 and no frozen embryos.  I tried to have a lot of embryos transfer since I learn that none of them made it to freeze in the past.  I'm 23 weeks pg with a boy.  I'm 39 yrs old.  Good luck on your comming cycle.

None of my embryos made it to freeze (we trasfered 3 out of 9) and I got my bfp anyways.  Our embryologist told us that fewer than 30% cycles ever have any embryos frozen.  I hope your fresh cycle works!

Hey darling, and sorry you are feeling disappointed.  In an ideal situation we would hope to have 50% of fertilized embryos to freeze, but that is a best case scenario (i.e in a patient under 35 with no male factor issues), but in reality for most patients, there is little to no freezing.  I would not be too concerned, as embryologists we are SO critical of embryos to freeze -- it is a stressful process and we don't want to freeze something that isn't going to survive.  Good luck!!

Oh, sorry, I didn't quite get the end of you post where you mentioned the cycle already failed... Do you mean to say you have your 2nd transfer at the end of the week or did you already start stimming for your next cycle? In any case, I wish you all the best! :)

Thanks for the luck!!!!!...I need it!!!  I have been hearing that some clinics wait to freeze so only the really good quality ones are left if any...so they dont waste your time or $!!!  I found out that my clinic waits until day 6 and they dont freeze anything under 3aa..whatever that means but I know I had 1 4aa from my 1st cycle....I am due to have my 2nd retrieval by the end of this week!!

Don't freak out, from what I hear it is not uncommon to not have any embryos left for freezing. During my injections class for my IVF, the nurse told us that if we have 1-2 embryos left for freezing, we should consider ourselves lucky. Transferring 2 good quality embryos gives you a great chance of success, so you may not have to worry about that! Good luck :)
