PGD questions

Hi,

i seem to see alot of people talking about this preimplantion genetic testing on this site. what causes one to receive this? i called and spoke to the nurse at mt RE office and she told me no i wont have this done because i had it done already prior to starting my cycle and everything came back negative for any defects or abnormalites. should i be worried? any advice would be appreciated. thanks:)

PGD is when they test the fertilized embryos for genetic/chromosomal abnormalities prior to implanting them.  If your chromosome analysis and your husband's analysis came back normal, there would be no reason to preform a PGD on your fertilized eggs.  Now in my case, I have a balanced translocation.  My chromosomes are not "normal."  Some of my eggs will be good, and some won't.  If I were to have IVF, PGD would be an option for me.  The doctors wouldn't transfer any embryos that are chromosomally abnormal. I hope this helped.  Lately I've become very familiar with PGD, IVF, la la la...It's all part of the ride!

Hello...

I had PGD testing done prior to implantation due to my age.  I am 40 years old and at a higher risk for genetic abnomalities.  Good luck to you!!!  Super Sticky Baby Dust!

I have had 4 losses since the birth of my first son (who is almost 5), and have done 2 IUI's (unsuccessful) and an IVF, also unsuccessful, and just did a third IUI to save up money for embryo freezing for another IVF.  If I do IVF again my RE would like to do the PGD.  He told me that the fact that I have had so many losses and because IUI's and IVF didn't work, I may have more chromosomally abnormal eggs than most women my age (I'm only 27) and that by doing PGD it may give us a better chance of having another baby.  Dh and I both had the blood chromosome testing done and it came back normal, but just because the chromosomes in my blood are normal, I guess the chromosomes in my eggs may not be.  I have also had my fsh tested and it was also normal.  My husband and I were catagorized as being unexplained infertility, but now under the diagnosis of recurrent pregnancy loss due to having 3 out of the m/c within one year, 2 within 3 months.

I wish you the best of luck with you ET, keeping my fingers crossed that you get the bfp that your looking for and two beautiful babies in your arms in the near future.
