PiD and fertility

I had been in alot of pain and was bleeding heavily constantly, after visiting my doctor I was diagnosed with PID caused by an STI.   This was around 8 years ago, I am now 30.  I have since had no normal smears so have had to visit my colposcopy unit several times and have had a biopsy on 2 occasions but this has never been followed up with any treatment. The doctor told me that this was due to the areas that were showing bad cells were small and had not grown in size.  On my last visit I was told that everything was looking ok and that I will go back to having annual smears (rather than 6 monthly).  I stopped taking my contraceptive pill around 4 months ago.  I am concerned that due to my past history I may not be able to conceive in the future.  I know that after a year or so of trying to get pregnant you can visit your GP to discuss being tested but in the meantime I am left wondering what my actual chances are....

The main problem with PID is blocked tubes. You really should have your tubes checked. If you were diagnosed with PID, this should be covered by your insurance. The smears are for detecting cervical cancer. It is good that you keep up with these, too many women do not. But, blocked tubes could really hinder ttc. I would discuss this witht the dr that diagnosed the PID. I wouldn't wait until a yr after trying. I would act now. If there is blockage, you want to know asap and see if it can be cleared.
