Private frozen embryo adoption..is it legal??

Hi guys... i have a question..
Would anyone know if it is legal to give/sell someone your extra frozen embryos? Or does it have to go through an embryo adoption company?
Heres why i ask.. A donor egg cycle is just SO expensive..
And if you go through a embryo adoption company..its just a big hassle.. you have to have an adoption home study and all kinds of crazy stuff... and it is also pretty expensive...
I know that alot of couples have extra FETs that they arent going to use and they are just sitting there..
I thought if we could cut out the middle man..(i.e. the embryo adoption companies) it would just be so much easier and cheaper...
Any ideas?? Or am i nuts??

You cannot legally sell embryos.  You can donate them to someone, or to an agency, but you cannot sell them.  Their are lots of people  looking for donor embryos...you could make someones dream come true!!!  There is a website miracles waiting that matches people looking to donate with people looking to receive.  It is free for you to join if you are interested. There are also a couple of agencies you can donate them to....snowflake adoptions, and e called FIRM.  I met my donor on here, and now have 20 month old boy, girl twins.

Look them up on the web. NCCRM.com. It is crazey what those adoption agency wants to charge you esp when they got the embies for FREE. They neglect to mention that in there price. Our RE is absolutly the best. The whole staff is!

I'm on my 2ww now with a FET. We used adopted embryos from our RE. They are the best. We live in North Carolina. We went it and did all of our blood work and HSG. It took us about 6 months to get matched up but it only costed us about 3500 and that was with meds. You can look them up. The name is North Carolina Center for Reproductive medicine. They have several offices.Dr Toma and his staff are the best. Always making you feel right at home.

especially if you look into the already frozen eggs.  that would mean you wouldn't have to sync your cycle with a donor.... just a thought : )

I don't know how you find people who want to adopt out their embryo other than an agency.  I know they can't charge you for them because they are considered an embryo.

Where do you live?  Shady Grove is really good at working with you on out of town monitoring.  It is so easy with donor eggs.  We, my DH and I,  only have to make 2 trips there.  They do an over the phone consultation free of charge, and then you go for 1 day and do all testing, and meet with Social Worker, and hubby leaves his contribution, and then you do all of your testing in the city where you live, and go for transfer day.  If you live anywhere on or near the east coast, it would be worth checking into. : )

Paying a lawyer would be so worth it... much cheaper than the embryo adoption companies..
I wonder how i could get started in this....

Is Shady Grove part of Attain??

That's an interesting question... I think the issue would be that fertility clinics wouldn't deal with anybody without any legal agreements between you and the donor; too much liability on them...

I would just think you would need the person and a lawyer.
Could be wrong on that, but you are right.  Adopting others embryos is very very expensive *although you can get tax write off for adoption* I checked ino that too.  OHHH... by the way... Shady Grove has Frozen Donor Eggs not embryos that you could check in to.
