I'm actually going to say something a little opposite the previous poster. I did ice the area but not for very long. I basically put a small pack on my hip while my husband got the injection ready... just to numb the outside more than anything. I never felt the needle. Then I rubbed the area vigorously for about a minute or two after each injection to get the oil to absorb. I didn't do this the first two times but a friend recommended it and it made a world of difference when I started. I also either took a quick walk or sat on a heating pad for 15 minutes or so. I did have a little bruising but never any pain. And definitely switch sides as previously mentioned. You can do it!
Thank you tina1111! now I feel better! I can't believe I'm worrying about this with everything else going on...haha. I'll be sure to check youtube for those videos! Thanksss again!
They really aren't that bad. There are videos on youtube that show women doing them themselves. One bit of advice, don't ice the area to avoid pain. The medication absorbs best at room temp. Most times they are given on the on your upper butt. They don't hurt that bad at all. Usually, they give you 2 size needles. One for drawing the oil out of the vial and one for injecting (much smaller). Be sure to use the smaller one for injecting. Also, rotate sides when administering. I got pretty decent bruises from all the poking. Good luck!
