Question on Clomid Side Effects

HI everyone.  I am pretty new to this forum, although I have been hanging around medhelp for awhile.  My primary issue has been recurrent miscarriage (4 in the last 10 months).  Two cycles ago, my luteal phase began getting shorter (I was always a 28 day cycle and AF started to arrive on CD 25).  My OB had me take clomid 50mg this last cycle (day 5-9) and I am now on CD 20.  I am not sure when I ovulated, but BD'ed as per suggested on clomid calculator web site.  The last 3 days my breasts have been very very tender and sore.  I have had an increase in white vaginal discharge, and today started crying for no apparent reason.  I know its a bit early for these to be pregnancy symptoms, and I never have had PMS or symptoms like this around ovulation, so I am thinking it might have something to do with the clomid.  I guess what I am wondering is normally I ovulate right around day 14.  If these are ovulation symptoms, its quite late for me typically to ovulate. Can Clomid delay ovulation by 5 days or so?  Or, does Clomid cause these symptoms 11 days after finishing the pills?  Has anyone else experienced this?  Sorry the post is so long, but I am really confused.  Thanks so much. Any input or info is greatly appreciated.

1st of all.. CLOMID IS EVIL!  I had night sweats, sore bb's, severe crankiness, mood swings, bloating, .. you name it!!  I will never ever do Clomid again.
All those nasty feelings you are having is totally from that dumb Clomid.. I would mention it to your RE and maybe he can give you something else like Femara.

I agree, I did 7 months on it and it makes you crazy. I would do it again if it would have worked for me, but it didn't. I was ALWAYS crying on clomid, it was the only time I felt more sorry for DH than myself for having to put up with me. I hope you can find something better to take and good luck TTC.

Think of Clomid as the PMS hormone. I was lucky not to have too many side effects and would do it again but I have heard of many emotional horror stories and I can feel for you. For me it was more of physical side effects---felt like my entire pelvic region was going to bust. I had 8 eggs and was so ridiculously sore for a week.

Good luck. We are rooting for you.

Thanks for the info and feedback.  I guess I expected some side effects, just not 12 days after I finished the prescription.  The side effects are not super horrible for me, just enough to make me slightly uncomfortable...the super sore breasts are the worst.  It just seems so strange to me that that didn't happen while I was taking it.  Crazy.  Oh well, if it does what its supposed to, all will be worth it in the end.  Thanks again all, I appreciate it.  Amanda

Hi All,

I have been on clomid back in 2004 when trying for my first baby and I have not experienced anything unusual, and in fact last night I finished my last dose of clomid and again I did not have a bad experience being on it.  I just hope I will be succesfull getting pregnant at the first cycle of clomid:)
And I will you all the same:)

Im on my first round of 50 mg Clomid, took CD5-9. I'm  at 8 dpo = CD26 and so far I'm a fan of Clomid. I had really long cycles of 40-50 + days and some months missed O all together. This month I ovulated on CD 18 (ive heard from many that's the average O day on Clomid) and I haven't cried or had any crazy emotions. My BBs are sore, starting about 4-5 days ago but not a big deal. Im tired, but I'm always tired before AF. And my temps are steadily rising. I guess some people have bad experiences with Clomid, but I'm here to defend it. At least for now. So far, so good. I'm 8 dpo, and praying I only need one round to do the trick - but I have two refills before I go back to the OBGYN.
I wish you luck! And if you don't get preggers this month, I advise you use OPKs and/or BBT methods next Clomid cycle so you can pinpoint O better and see that it did work!!
SSBD to you! - Heather

I totally agree with maybebaby...  took 50 mg clomid and, let me tell you, I KNEW when i was ovulating.  My follicles never grew huge, though.  They only got about 16 & 15 mm.   But I felt them nontheless.  Then after ovulation, my pelvic area was back to normal immediately.

I don't know if you're ovulating now, but i would suggest using OPK's because that will take the question out of it.

And remember, if this month doesn't work then the dr. might increase your dosage to 100 mg next month.  Mine Did.   We're getting closer to our target ~ Good Luck  &

I like Clomid so far too.  My first month I had a lot of side effects (nausea, bloating, dizziness, tender nipples) starting CD 18 but I'm experiencing no ill side effects this month (I'm now on CD28 of my 2nd month).  I do have a rash but nothing a prescription can't clear up.  I'm thinking my body just needed to get used to the medicine because my body is not normal.

Also, like some of the other girls said, I KNEW when I ovulated this month.  I don't think I've ever O'ed before (or if I did it was very rarely) because I've never had such a clear and distinct feeling around that time.

Wow, I really appreciate all the input.  I was fortunate, the side effects never got to be more than mildly annoying.  I just finished my second round of clomid (taken CD 5 -9).  Today is CD 11 and I got a positive on my OPK.  Now, I have always O'd on my own, and always had my LH surge on day 11.  I am a bit concerned that this is a "false positive", although I used clearblue easy digital, and they claim its not impacted by clomid.  Other than that, no real O symptoms, although thats not overly abnormal for me either.  Do you think this was a true positive?  Especially given that it came the same day it used to prior to the clomid?  I'm hoping..  Thanks again everyone, the input really helped out a lot.

I would have sex every other day starting tomorrow and chart your temperatures.  That way you know when you actually ovulated when the temps go up and stay up.  If you have sex every other day then H's sperm count can replenish and your less apt to miss the day you O in case this was a false positive.  Good luck!
