REALLY worried about biopsy results! Please advise if you've had a biopsy before!

Can you get biopsy results from a nurse or do they have to come from the doctor directly?

I am waiting to get the biopsy results from my lap done on July 1.  There were over a 100 spots of what he said was a 50% chance being endometriosis, and 50% chance being scar tissue.  Even though he didn't mention it, because I'm sure if there was any concern he probably wouldn't alarm me while waking up from surgery, I have been trying not to stress but of course I'm a little scared because there was so much of it and it appeared so quickly (only 8 months since my last lap).  So I've been a little panicky wondering if it's something worse than endo or scar tissue.  I called a week ago, and they said they didn't have the results yet.

So I figured I'd call today, and even though my appt is tomorrow that I could at least just get the results and relax for today.  When I called the nurse didn't act like it was going to be a problem to give them to me, she asked if she could put me on hold while she grabbed my chart to get the results.  Then I waited for over 5 minutes on hold, and when she came back, she said "Dr. Cohen is the only person who can give you your results, and he's in surgery right now.  In fact, I think he'll be in surgery ALL DAY so I guess you'll have to talk to him in person tomorrow."  I may be being paranoid but she was acting weird.  I know this nurse and she's been there for the years I've been going there, so it's not like she's new and didn't know the procedure for giving results.  She acted like she just had to grab my file and give them to me.  Now I'm kind of FREAKING OUT.  I'm trying not to - I keep swearing that it's probably scar tissue from the last dip$hit who opperated on my - I know he removed endo from the back of my uterus, and my guess is that he scraped me up pretty good.  But it's hard not to worry when your uterus is covered in over a 100 white spots and they can't tell you what it is and they can't remove it because it would cause too much damage to the uterus since there's so much of it.  ARGH!!!!

I had the biopsy done in early 2005.  I had a D&C because of the hyperplasia in late 2005.  I have not had another biopsy, but I did have another D&C done in late 2007 to remove polyps, so maybe I'm wrong, but if I'd had more hyperplasia, surely it would have been found, right? It wasn't so I'm thinking that it truly was a one time thing.

Have you had further biopsies since?

I don't know but I had the same thing happen to me about 3 years ago, hyperplasia on biopsy, and nothing on D&C, so I didn't question it.

I had an endometrial biopsy done, and there was hyperplasia, which is pre-cancerous, and my doctor called me right away to discuss.  It turned out to be a false alarm, I had a D&C and nothing else was found, but if it was bad, I would think the doctor would have called you right away, so that no news is good news.

Is it common for an endometrial biopsy to show this and then to prove to be a false alarm? The same has happened to me recently and I just don't know what to think - surely those atypical cells everybody seemed so worried baout cannot just disappear like that?

Hi Alt76,

I had a biopsy done about a month ago and I called in to get the results and she told me that the dr. has to give them to me.  I think it is standard protocal.  I am sorry you have to wait until tomorow to receive the results.  They don't relize the waiting has a big effect on us.  I wanted to wish you the best and please keep me updated.

I have had my share of biopsies.  TO be honest with you, if it was something to get alarmed at, the doctors would not wait for your appointment.  They would have called you to come in.

I have never had the experience of a nurse giving me results.  I always had to go to the office to get my results directly from the doctor.

Good luck . . . keep us posted.
