So Confused!

I am 22 and have been trying to concieve for one year. I recently had blood work done on CD23 and progesterone level came back at 18. Doctor said that meant I had not ovulated by that stage, but could have after the test. She also said I had nothing to worry about and to stop worrying and it would happen. She said it would be pointless to get another blood test next cycle on a later day as it wouldn't show anything she didn't already know. I then got my period on CD32. I am concerned that either I did not ovulate or my luteal phase is too short. Should I take doctors advice and stop worrying, or do I need to get more tests done?

Hi Ladies...
Just realised why you are saying I HAD ovulated and doctor saying I HADN'T. I am from Australia and I have only just learnt that the level readings are different. So in US readings, I would have actually only gotten around a 5.6. (You divide the Australian reading by 3.18). But I also read that the levels only peak at 7DPO, so because I have a longer cycle I may not have peaked yet. Thoughts?

I agree with the above comment. Blood work on CD23 at 18 means you DID ovulate. My RE liked to see mine over 15. This test should be done about a week after you get a +opk but since you arent getting any I would try a different brand. Temping only works for some, I am not one of them and my RE had me stop temping.

Hi Des_a_rae,
Thanks for you thoughts...I really just don't know what to think. I think I'll take your advice and go to a different doctor this cycle and see what they say and what level I get this time. But if your doc said you had ovulated at 9 then maybe I did and could be why doctor wasn't worried??
I have tried OPKs and never gotten a positive, but then maybe I just keep missing it. Will start to take my temps this month. Is such a relief to have a little support - thanks for answering! What is your doctor doing to help you get a higher level?

Hi there!  I would think having a progesterone level of 18 would mean that you HAD ovulated.  My RE did blood work on CD21 and I had a level of 9, which meant I HAD ovulated but he wanted it higher because it was a tad low.  Have you tried using Ovulation Predictor Kits or taking your basal body temp?  If you haven't I would definitely start.  It will help alot as far as checking for ovulation, the blood test is the best but I do think having a number of 18 would mean that you had already ovulated.  Hopefully you'll get more responses!!  Wished I could help more!  Best of luck to you!!

OH and btw, no disrespect to your dr. but I would get another blood test done next cycle to check progesterone level!!  It can change or it may not, but better safe than sorry.
