Sperm donor

Sperm donor

I have been on clomid since January 2011, but have been on a break as of June due to 2 large cyst. One cyst has ruptured and we are waiting for the other to hopefully dissolve before starting again. RE will let us try 3 more times on clomid. As one of the possabilities for the pregnancy I am toying with the idea of using a sperm donor. I wondered if any one has tried a sperm donor, thoughts about using a sperm donor, or any advice just related to sperm donor. Thank you in advance!

I just had my first IUI on Saturday.  I used donor sperm.  It was odd at first to go shopping for sperm but I got over it quickly and had fun with it.  Some banks offer more donor info than others.  They all charge to see more info like childhood pictures, donor essays and extended family medical history.  I've noticed some places have an al a carte way of letting you see more info.  You pay for what you want from each individual donor.  Others will charge a flat fee and allow you to see all this info for every donor.

The extended family medical profiles really helped me in narrowing down my choice.  I was able to eliminate donors based on this. I used the extended family profiles to help me find a donor whose family most resembled characteristics in my own.   The childhood pictures were also great, especially if they included pictures of when they were older than a baby.

Go for it!  Good luck!!!

Good Luck with your IUI's & clomid.  Can I ask why you are thinking of using a SD?  Have you been told that there may be an issue?

I used donor sperm because I'm single and doing this on my own.

I admire your determination.  I would be doing the same thing if I was not married.
Praying for you.

I am single too and doing this on my own...it is expensive and I have no fertilty coverage on my insurance. Donor sperm from a bank is expensive and the darn shipping is extra, not to mention the IUI's and meds aren't cheap either. I have only had one iui with sperm from a bank, and I have also beem trying at home with a known donor. This has allso been a pain as with my busy schedule, having to coordinate everything and making sure he is available, and it's getting to be a hassle. I would go straight to IVF if I had the funds and I am working my butt off tryng to get the funds. With donor sperm from a bank there is no emotional involvement and it is less hassle, thougj pricey. Good luck.

I have just used donor sperm for my first IUI 11 days ago, am going for my preg test tomorrow.  I am also single doing this.  I found the process of selecting a donor quite easy as you are given so much information including photos, I was lucky there was a toddler photo of the donor I chose as well as a grown up photo.  The vials of sperm are quite expensive (about $1000 per vial) and then you have the procedure costs on top.  I hope it works out for you.

It's great to find other SMC on here.
Pod78,my IUI was 8 days ago.  I'm a little behind you.  I'm not going in for any pregnancy test.  I'm just waiting for AF to show up or hopefully not show up which would be next weekend.

Best of luck tomorrow!

Thank you everyone for the feedback. At this point we are not sure if there might be an issue with my husband. Due to his religious beliefs he is not able to provide a sample to be tested. Which also then means he cannot provide a sample to IUI or IVF. Initally I thought we would just jump to adoption if the clomid process doesn't work, but then I started thinking about using a sperm donor so the child would be at least part me. Needless to say I am hoping that we are successful with the clomid...my husband is handsome as are all his 6 brothers so a little him would be just so adorable.

Best of luck to everyone!!!
