Surgery for removal of dermoid cysts

Hi, I have dermoid cysts on both of my ovaries. One measures 4mm by 3mm by 4mm and the other measures 4mm by 2mm by 4mm. Can someone please tell me 1) how big or small they are in centimeters and 2) the best type of surgery to have in order to salvage my ovaries if they can be salvaged?

hi there,
i had dermoid cysts in both ovaries as well, the left ovary cyst measured almost 4" and the right ovary was 2". i had them done laproscopically. it was a day surgery, but stayed overnight cos i couldnt urinate. But it went well, my ovaries are both intact and i am 3months pregnant now. I would recommend brigham and womens in boston.

Hi there. Don't stress too much. I had cycts that where 5cm so those are ok. You won't hurt or harm your ovaries by having them removed. I permantly have small cycsts that are any thing under 2mm and been told not to stress unless they get bigger than 2cm. Also i agree with above meds like the pill help to clear them up. Good luck and all of the above by jakl726 mentioned was what was said to me by my doc

mm to cm is done by dividing mm by 10.  so your cysts is 0.4 x 0.3 x 0.4 cm and 0.4 x 0.2 x 0.4cm...get a ruler so you can see how big... its fairly small but the type of cyst you have can get bigger if not removed.  you have a type of cyst that contains tissue vs. fluid.  cysts containing fluid can resolve on its own or will resolve using birth control pills.  your type of cyst has tissue and is removed through surgery such as laparoscopy which is a minor surgery.  recovery is quick and this type of surgery will preserve the ovary tissue and ovary function.

i'm not a doctor but this is what i learned from reading and from having ovarian cysts (but mine were only filled with fluid - so i didn't need to have surgery).  you should google ovarian cysts and the different types so you are more comfortable with what you are going through.

good luck.
