What is the earliest an ultrasound can be done"

I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have a history of an ectopic (that destroyed the right tube), followed by a regular pregnancy, I have had pelvic pain, mostly on the right side for a week ( I have had pain there before without a diagnosis) I fear another ectopic. I have had 3 hcg's done 4/29 it was 78, 5/1 it was 184 and 5/4 it was 476. LMP 3/31. The dr office said I have to reach 2500. What the esrliest anyone else has had an ultrasound to make sure it's not another ectopic?

My RE required an u/s at 5 1/2 wks to rule out ectopic pregnancy since we did IUI and risks are higher. We did see the sac right where it is supposed to be.

Dr office just called, ultrasound isn't until thursday. repeat hcg on monday. I was really hoping for confirmation that everything is ok before mother's day as we are waiting to spread the news until confirmation.

the pain is not severe, more like "colicky". I am still awaiting a callback from the dr.

Good idea to go get checked if you are having pelvic pain. But just wanted to reassure you that when I got pregnant after my ectopic pregnancy, I did have some pelvic pain with the successful pregnancy. When you ovulate it creates a small burst on the surface of your ovary - and you might have other eggs that were trying to mature too...some hormones can make these two things cause some temporary pain. That's what it was for me and it went away quickly.

If you are ever having SEVERE pain, go to the ER right away!

Thanks all. The doctor office called me this evening. The ultrasound is being scheduled ASAP....unfortunately at my local hospital that will porbably still be at least a week. I expect a call tomorrow to let me know when it is scheduled. No more HCGs ordered for now. Depending on how long of a wait it is to be scheduled I may go thru the ER just to get it done ( I need some peace of mind)! I can ignore the pain if I know it's nothing bad.

I too have a history of ectopics, My last pregnancy i had an ultrasound at 5wks4days my hcg was 597 and a 5mm gestational sac was seen but the tech did say dont panic if nothing is seen as it was only very early, But at 5wks they should be able to detirmine weather or not it is a tubal pregnancy, also HCG is normally an indication as it doesnt double it may rise a little drop then rise again my 1st ectopic ruptured like you but my 2nd they could tell by my hcg it was only slowly rising when they did a scan they could see it at the top of my tube.

I wish you the best of luck!!

I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and one at 9 weeks.  At 6 weeks, the baby and yolk sac were both clearly visible.

I agree that at 5 weeks you usually see a gestational sac - however, from what my doctor told me was your hcg needed to be between 1000 - 1500 to be able to see anything.

I was 5 weeks and my hcg was 1100 and we didn't see anything.  We went back 4 days later and there was a sac.

I would demand one from the dr.  At 5 weeks at least a small gestational sac should be visible.  You more than likely won't see a yolk sac or fetal pole, but at least they could determine that the sac is starting the right place.  It is your body, your pregnancy.  Don't let the drs tell you what to do.
