coffee and conceiving

Ok I finally decided to post this question just to get some thoughts....I really like to have at least one coffee a day. Sometimes not a full on coffee, but a flavoured type drink with less caffeine, but caffeine nonetheless. Is it really really that bad to have one coffee a day if you're TTC??? Will it really hinder your TTC?  thoughts??

Proud to announce I have cut out coffee...yay!!!  I switched over to a green tea, the one I picked says 25% less caffeine than most green teas.  I also have not had a single caffeine withdrawal headache, cause I've just replaced it with something much less caffeinated.

oooh I love rooibos tea!! yummy!  See I guess there are things to switch to!  Good for you for quitting! And good luck on the TTC, you never know, maybe this will make a big difference, I hope so!!  Kinda lucky your bro is a gynecologist, nothing like having a family member right "on tap" ...tho it probably must be kinda weird sometimes lol!!! Good luck again, hope to see your BFP soon!

I used to drink coffee all day long for several years. I like black strong coffee and really enjoy it. I am now on my 8th month ttc and 2 weeks ago I cut coffee completely. Although my brother who is a gynecologist said I can still enjoy 1 cup of coffee per day, I prefer to be on the safe side.
I admit I was feeling sick for at least 5 days, and I still miss the taste of coffee, but I feel much better now and waiting for my BFP :-)
(I now drink green tea or mostly rooibos)

Green tea has a lot less caffeine than coffee. The following link gives an idea of the amounts of caffeine in each http://coffeetea.about.com/library/blcaffeine.htm and in soda.

Good for you!  Especially the quitting smoking!!!! Smoking is so bad for your reproductive system girl!! I really really hope you stick with it!

I don't know why but every time I don't drink coffee by noon I get the stupid headache...and like I said I literally have no more than one cup a day!  I must just be a super sensitive to EVERYTHING, cause when I was pregnant with both my little ones, I barfed for 6 mths straight morning noon and night, and had to take diclectin before it finally started easing.

Funny story tho, I was having sex with my hubby long after we found out I was pregnant with my second, and all of a sudden I was like...OH GOD...(and not in a good way lol) .....he just stopped...and I literally pushed him away, RAN to the bathroom and puked and puked and puked!  Now if that doesn't hurt a man's ego. lolol.
But anyhow, I think I will do my best to cut out the coffee. Maybe replace it with Green tea?? What do you all think? Is green tea okay? Or is that just as caffeinated??

I literally used to drink about a pot of coffee before noon each day and then proceed to have 3 or 4 diet cokes a day....then we got back on the TTC band-wagon and I cut all of it (and smoking cigarettes) out immediately the day of my trigger, cold turkey.  Surprisingly, I didn't get the tell-tale caffeine withdrawal headaches (which I usually got if I went a day without it) and have managed to remain pretty calm about it.  I haven't had any caffeine (other than a piece of chocolate here and there) or cigarettes for over a week now (9 days past trigger/8 dpo) and I feel great!  If I want a soda, I grab a caffeine free pepsi or root-beer or something, and limit myself to 2 a day at the most, and drink tons of water and milk.  I don't know if it will work or not, but my last one ended in blighted ovum m/c so I'm trying to do everything I can to help this one along.  Here's to BFP's to all of us!!

They say those caffeine withdrawl headaches go away pretty quickly. I didn't get those when I quit, I was just a little more tired than usual for a couple weeks. As tarobinc said, it is what you feel comfortable with, but if you are determined to not drink caffeine when you are pregnant, it is best to quit before you are pregnant. Don't need those headaches on top of morning sickness and everything else. If you do decide to quit, good luck. You can do it! I was surprised that after a week or two I didn't even miss the coffee or soda anymore.

hmm....ya see I'm like you tarobinc, I only drink one cup a day. The super annoying thing is if I haven't had some form of coffee by around noon I'll start to get a massive headache...so bad I have to take tylenol or something for it.  Though I guess if I want to stop that one coffee altogether I should do it now. I honestly don't see how one cup of coffee a day would really cause that much harm to your TTC.  But I have read that most people feel its best to just cut it out, why not if you can right.  I haven't been able to drink pop since I was a kid, I can't stomach it at all, I can't even tell you the last time I even took a sip of soda, so at least I don't have to worry about that I guess.  Well since today is friday, maybe I'll start trying to cut out the coffee on monday lol....I've been wanting to for a while, I'm just not that confident that I can do it :)

Ok, so I still drink one cup of leaded coffee a day. I actually mix it half decaf and half regular but it usually equals out to one cup of regular a day. I started doing this when I started to ttc a few years back. I continued to drink one cup a day while pg. All went well with the pg and my dd.

It really comes down to what you are comfortable with.

For me, I don't (and didn't) blame my one cup of coffee as to why I was unsuccessful at getting pg. We did get pg on our 3rd round of IUI and I had one cup of coffee everyday during ttc and while pg. However, some women might think the one cup could affect chances, so they just cut it out all together. It can't hurt so why not cut it out if you think you should.

We are now ttc again and I still drink cup a day. Outside of the occasional piece of chocolate or chocolate milk, I don't have any more caff than that per day.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I DO love my coke (as in coca-cola! Ha ha!)!!  The first time we did IVF, I kept drinking it - only one can a day.  And the IVF was unsuccessful.  The second time we did it, I cut caffeine out completely, starting two days before the embryo transfer.  And this time was successful!  I'm not sure if this had anything to do with it, but I thought I'd post it anyway and maybe it will be of some help.

I cut out caffeinated drinks once I started ttc but it wasn't hard for me because I wasn't that hooked on them. I have read that the caffeine can be bad for implantation but not sure if that is true. I have also heard that one little cup a day won't hurt your chances of conceiving. I don't think all doctors agree on this. It seems to be more a matter of opinion.
