Thanks for the info....:)
If you take the basal temp to confirm ovulation and then watch for cervical mucus to thin and get closer to the egg white type you should have a pretty good sense of when to try. My understanding is that the saliva tests just shows that your mucus is getting more fertile meaning thinner and you are getting close to ovulation. Seeing a ferning pattern with saliva doesn't mean you are necessarily ovulating that day. Or at least that's what I understand. Just remember sperm live for up to 5 days in fertile mucus but the egg is only viable for 24 - 48 hours so the days leading up to ovulation are the most important. If you wait too long to have sex you might not catch ovulation day if your charting is off.
I have never tried the saliva test. Seems to technical for me :) It's hard enough to interpret those darn OPK's! I have had good luck with the Clear Blue Easy digi OPK's. Seeing that smiley face is always a good thing! I also BBT, but it's only downfall is it will only tell you after you have O'd, but I find it reassuring when it matches what my OPK's say.
There is also the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor or the OV Watch. Both cost over $100 dollars and require you to buy additional sticks/sensors every month. But it certainly is an option . . .
If you are brand new at charting, I always recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschland.
