fibroid and infertility

I went to see a fertility specialist. I was 36 years old and had at least 1 miscarriage. My doctor gave me Metaformin.
I did not take it at first. Then I went to see the doctor when I turned 37. The doctor gave me a HSG exam and saw that my tubes are clear. During the procedure he saw a 2 cm mass/fibroid. Now he is saying that my next step in treating
my fertility is surgery. I want to take the Metaformin first before doing this surgery. Also, I do not want to do IVF eventually. I want to see if I can conceive naturally and am willing to except it if I can not. Do you think this surgery to remove the fibroid is really necessary as a next step? Shouldn't I see if I am ovaluating and if there are issues around miscarriage first?

Thank you.

Smokey

I WAS UNDERWENT MYOMECTOMY FOR THE REMOVAL OF FIBROID THROUGH LAPROTOMY(CESARIAN) ON 08/27/08. My Doc told that usually u can try for the issues though you have fibroid but if that develops simultaniously with the baby it may harm to the baby and ends with miscarriage.why because the pressure given by the fibroid to the uterus and other organs with its grown weight it may end in risk. Better thing is u may go to Doc and take steps for removal of fibroid as it is small now. Mine is 12cmx10cm.  and there is another risk if at the time of operation for suppose bleeding is heavy then the removal of uterus (Histerectomy) also occurs in rare cases. u immediately go and take steps for removal of fibroid. As i suffered a lot with the doc advice now i am serious. But in my case it ended happily and I opted IVF in March and now I am 6 weeks preg. So wishing u goodluck

Hi smokey,
I had a large fibroid removed via myomectomy.. Unfortunately it didn't "cure" my infertility.  But it was really quite large (about 14 cm) and it was causing me serious pain, and had pushed my uterus over to above my hip.  You might want to get a second opinion if you are concerned about the importance of the surgery.  I have alot of scar tissue from mine, but because of the pain I was in, I would do it again in a heartbeat!
