fibroids and conceiving

Hi,

is there anyone here on this site who have had fibroids and were still able to conceive?  I recently went to my ob/gyn and she suspects fibroids based symptoms and physical exam and i'm scheduled for an ultrasound to see exactly how big the fibroid is.  She also told me that fibroids account for less than 3% of infertility..so chances are still high that i would be able to conceive again.  Does anyone have experience with this?  Thanks.

I have 4 fibroids and one of them is pretty large and I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant.  I have had a few miscarriages, yet all doctors involved said that they didn't have anything to do with the mc's.  My friend had 10, yes 10 and she has 2 kids.

SDteacher and socgirl....do you guys know where are they located at?? i mean, are they on top of your uterus from the outside?? then i wouldn't think it'd be much problem.....but if they are inside, then yep....they need removed!....now remember baby making is a huge deal....im saying for the baby to attach well, it needs to be clean, right, and cozy conditions in there! other wise it won't......they are picky!! =)
socgirl, i am glad it helped, and girls! DO NOT ever lose hope!! if it happened for me...it WILL for you!!! we are all meant to be mommies here!!!!! just keep fighting for it! DEMAND what you want done! and never listen to the ignorant people that tells you 'you are trying too hard...maybe give up and it'll happen' BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!!! i never ever gave up!!! and i don't think you guys are ready to give up either! =))

XOXOXO

thanks for both of your comments!  It's been helpful.  It's comforting to know that even if my fibroids are blocking the tubes, there is something that can be done about it.  Once again, thanks!

I am wondering if I should get my fibroids removed???  Will that help?  hmmm.  They day they are not in the way, but maybe it is better that they come out.  I'll bring it up at the next appt.

I have to agree with SDteacher......it depends where they are located....
I had one, the size of a tennis ball.......and it was submucusal, meaning, it was attached to the inner part of my uterus. It was blocking my tubes, tilting my uterus and acting as a IUD.....so, my infertility (year and some) was ALL caused by THAT DAMNED THING......

they had to treat it with Lupron, then went inside to remove it...and it was GONE!....they removed some endo i had from my m/c and voala!!! i am 5 weeks preggers now!!! =)

Good luck to you!!!!

Well it depends where your fibroids are.  I have 2 that are located at the top of my uterus.  My RE said that they should not interfere with a pregnancy.  But fibroids have been known to grow through out a pregnancy.  I would highly suggest you get an xray called the HSG.  It is a bit uncomfortable but worth it so you can see exactly what and where your intrusions are.  Keep us posted.
