irregular cycle and trying to conceive.

My periods are so unpredictably irregular. I've been tracking and trying since october and nothing. I am using ovulation testing and counting the days from when I do menstruate and I think I may be missing something. Not to mention through tracking I've figured out that my cycle is based on 40 days. So draining and frustrating. Any suggestions?

I have had ovarian cysts and fibroids when I was a teen and have always had painful periods and irregular periods. I even experienced a cyst bursting one time. I sched an appointment with my obgyn. I am pretty routine with my visits and have changed my dr since then and she has only mentioned that things are fine. No cysts or anything unusual.
Thanks for the input.

I have the same problem but have an average of a 52 day cycle. I went to the doctor yesterday and she thinks I have PCOS. I am not over weight and I am very healthy. The doc said they use to think that if you had PCOS you would be over weight and have excess hair growth (I have neither). They now realize even healthy women can have PCOS. She is going to put me on Metformin (usually used to treat diabetics but had been successful with helping regulate women's cycles) to see if that helps balance my hormones.  If it doesn't she will add Clomid (a med used to help induce ovulation). I would suggest you go see your OBGYN. If you do have PCOS it can be very difficult to conceive on your own.  Good luck.
