iui

Hi all,

I'm new to this.  This is my second time of iui ( no clomid or any other meds), 11 dpo but i didn't feel anything except feeling my period is on its way soon.  2nd time the dr gave me hcg trigger shot and iui followed 18 hours later.  was it too soon?  It should be 24-36 hrs later, right?  Does anyone experience nausea after hcg shot?  I had 2 home pregnancy tests and both negative on day 10dpo and 11dpo.  I live in a small country town and  to have blood test i have to travel to 1.5hrs, has to be available at clinic from day 11th onwards (  clinic about 3.5hrs).  I'm tiring and wonder how long is my journey?  I believe that thing happens for a reason, so, what is God trying to tell me in the meantime?

I had my trigger shot during IUI and had the IUI 36 hours later so 18 sounds quite short to me. You need to ask your doctor why?

Some people do get nausea - i didn't but i have read here of loads of symptoms.
I know this is a tiring and frustrating journey but you will get there. If your AF doesn't arrive by day 17 take a test again. If it does arrive then think about what's next.
Try not to stress out about getting to the clinic and taking blood tests - i sounds like suc a hassle so think every day AF doesn't arrive is a great day!
I was convinced AF was coming and had all usual PMT feelings and it turned out I was pregnant - that happend to me twice so sit back and relax as much as possible.
Its the roll of the dice and your time will come for sure.

Thanks all.  I know, only 2 months on the journey isn't long enough to get tired or frustrated, but there are momments where i can't control myself.

Add to this journey, i'm 36, single and longing to be a mum.  So, this is my choice before i'm getting too old, both physically and mentally unfit for this role.  Insurance doesn't cover this and in Australia, you couldn't buy sperms as in US.  It took me 4 years searching for sperms donor and 6 months waiting before doing anything.  Anyway, i'm relieved i can go ahead in this journey and i'm trying my best to fulfill my dreams.  Let's leave in God's hand and pray hard.

AF still not coming yet but i'm convinced about its arrival.  On the other hand, i hope it may turn out like yours.  Wouldn't it be nice?????

I'm seeing my Dr next Mon, should i discuss with him:
a/ Timing of IUI after trigger shot
b/ Having 2 IUI post 24hrs and 36hrs after HCG - they don't do 2 IUI in Australia for some reasons
c/ should i buy an ovulation kit to ensure the timing for IUI is right?  if so, which ovulation kit is user friendly and gives the most accurate result?
d/ whatelse should i ask?

thanks tivey

Hi

b) they don't do 2 IUI's here in Singapore either but yes if they did I would have done it for sure - twice the chance!

c) yes do you need to know when that happens. The ovulation kit i always used Clearblue digital ovulation kit but you can get store brands that I am sure are just as good. I used this because I had no choice here in Singapore and I can't read Chinese!
All you do pee on the stick and you get smiley face or not. After a positive you are likely to ovulate in the next 36 hours. Do you know roughly when you ovulate ? day 14 day 16?

Also the doctor should scan you to see when you are likely to ovulate - you may need some help like clomid or shots such as gonal F so you that produce more than one egg so more chance of success.  I took medication day 3 of period for 5 days twice a day. then had a scan on day 10 and again on day 12. Then last time they gave me extra shots because i only had one egg and the rest weren't growing as well. Turned out the mediation made no difference I had only one egg which I have every month naturally so I was wondering why I was spending all this money but anyway... it's bcause they can control it I guess.
d) Ask about adding meds to next cycle - why not? Every bit helps esp with yor age (your still young but you know what I mean - were not 25 anymore!)
I would recommend shots such as gonal F but maybe start taking clomid.  I am not a big fan of clomid (but its cheap) only because my body got used to it really quickly and it didn't do anything that I didn't do naturally. Also I was so depressed taking it for the 5 days so all in all my 6 mths me taking that is a waste but that's just me and it works for plenty.
e) Have a timeline agreed with your doctor. The reason I say this I wasted so much time thinking give it another few months here and there and before I knew it Iwas 36 trying for over 2 yrs. I hear that from a lot of women and the fact that your longing to get pregnant soon then agree a plan - 2 months clomid, 2 months shots, break IVF (you get the idea) I did that in the end and it took the uncertainity out of it in that i had a plan. Also plans never work so you will get pregnant 2 mths in ! great!
You need breaks too so your body can recover.

All in all Relax and be kind to yourself. Think again again its going happen soon, its v hard though I used to so down and frutrated when I saw AF. Has it happened?
Give up coffee if your a drinker I swear by it.
Let me know if you have any questions and good luck a million times.

AF still hasn't came yet but this morning i spotted ( only on the toilet tissue).  Good news do you think? I'll keep you posted .

Thanks for the advice.  I'll sit down and write down a list of questions/ plans to be discussed with him on Mon.

Should i get the sperm donor to check out his fertility too?  I don't think they checked him out his fertility.  All they did was to check his health.

My job requires moving ( not running or carry heavy things) all day.  Do you think it could add  more risk of miscarrage for the first 3 months ( i need to look  for alternative if it's a risk)

Thanks again

spotting ? hmm not sure doesn't sound good BUT it could be implantation also - some women have slight bleeding and think its AF and turns out to not so you just have to wait. fingers crossed.
Please don't worry so much - we all stress ourselves out too much. We all live and breath this baby making stuff so it's v hard to switch off.
yes have his sperm tested and every 3 months because new sperm comes every 100 days or so. Have him take multi vitamins too if possible.
On your job part I think things that you do before you get pregnant are ok to continue - obviously there are some things you can't like working with chemicals is a no no but more or less everything is buisness as usual. The only thing is you get so tired I can't even tell you so you might need to take it easy.
good luck let me know how the doctor goes.

Cramps came at 3am last night followed by heavy bleed.  it was expected so i was not too teary when it came.

Well, i better get ready for the next cycle rather than feeling depress, right????

Have you heard of " may be baby" which is a device to test your saliva for ovulation.  How's this different from ClearBule digital Ovulation kit?

My job requires on my feet all day, but no chemical involved.

Thanks alot for your advise.

Hi sorry to hear the dreaded AF arrived - damn!!!
But yes its pick yourself up dust off and on to the next month.  I have never heard of that device you mention. The Clear Blue is pee on a stick so I used it every morning when I woke up from day 12 but I always ovulated on day 14. I guess they both test the level of LH levels just in different ways...
Your job should be fine you will have to sit down a bit more when it happens. Its amazing what you can do without anyone noticing to give yourself rests etc. I have the mastered the art of it at work these days - most women have too who work esp in the first and last trimister.  You will be fine.
good luck at the doctors.

Why Dr/ specialists are always in the rush, huh?????  I asked my Dr about 2 IUI 24 and 36 hrs post Hcg trigger shot, he told me it's not giving any more chance.  However, because i insisted, he would suggest 1 IUI before the shot and 1 IUI 24hrs post.  He said, it should work best before i ovulate not after i ovulate.  I always think the best time is 24 hrs post ovulating, ie while the egg is travelling down from the fallopian tube to the uterus.  Anyway, here is the plan for the coming month:
Day 12 : blood test and U/S
day 13: IUI and hcg shot
day 14: iui

Now, please advise tivey,
a/
on day 13, if " may be baby" and the ClearBlue results are neg, should i still go ahead with IUI?  Dr told me, the sperms last upto 24hours after IUI ( is this correct ???? i thought only 6 hrs? )
b/
For the last 2 attempts, after IUI, i drove about 1.5 hrs for accupuncture, should i be at rest ie lying position or driving this far ( in sitting position) for accupuncture?

Anythingelse should i do to increase the chance of getting pregnant?

Thanks and regards.

Hi sorry have not been on line my husband is away with the laptop and the home computer is so **** and old.

a) doctor is right I think they can last ages in some cases up to 5 days I have read but most likley 24 - 48 hours.

If your going to get trigger shot then don't worry about clearblue. U/S on day 12 should tell you when the to have the triggger shot ie follies grow 2mm every 2 days all things being equal. For me I had trigger shot 36 hours before my iui took place so I think your timings are good. Its great your having the u/s - you can fine tune it and give yourself the best possible chance.

b) After your iui stay in that position for 30-40 minutes with your legs raised. I heard accupunture was great I was going to try it. This is really my personal opinion but I wouldn't drive 3 hours afterwards. Obviously you have to get home but just do that. I would get into bed, sleep, read, watch tv do everyhting to be relaxed and calm. Driving can be a bit stressful but I am sure it doesn't make much difference in the grand scheme of things.  My doctor told me that the sperm meets the egg about an hour after the IUI. If your doing yours earlier then maybe you need to lie down for the day if possible. I went straight to bed slept, watched a few dvd's and just relaxed. Maybe go for your accupunture a few days afterwards?

Also take it easy I know you have a physical job but try and just not overdo it.
Go to bed every night early if possible.
Eat pineapple  - its a japanese thing I heard so I did !!
Also take 2 5mg folic acid a day one morning one evening. And a prenatal multivitamin if you can find one but any multi vitamin is good.
Is your doctor putting you on tabs e.g. progesterone?
I was taking 2 of them a day too up to day 12 post iui (after 35 you need a boost of hormones so take anything he gives you! ) Then I had nothing for 5 days until I tested. I think they do that to see if without meds you continue to do this natrually cause were so pumped up with hormones it can lead to false positive tests etc which you read about here.

Finally have 20 minutes to yourself each day lie down and just convince yourself everything is going well the egg met the sperm and you are pregnant. I am convinced positive visualisation and thinking that its happening really helps. And it's complete focus focus focus and think this is your month!!!

Foods - no caffine of any description if you can help it. Or wine etc.

And just enjoy its a lovely time when you think about it - you are making a baby. Be v nice to yoruself. Let me know how it goes and I will be thinking about you and sending you lots of positive good wishes and thoughts!

Very exciting - good luck.

Tivey x

Hi tivey

How are you?  Did Easter bunny come? ( do they have Easter egg in Singapore?? ).

First day back to work after the Easter break ( we got 4 days off).  I got a few cramps and back pain since i'm on my feet all day.  My job requires standing all day long but no heavy lifting or physical work.  Will i be ok?

hi hi sorry have not been on line. Happy belated easter to you.  Yes they have easter here but I am gone off chocolate since I became pregnant so I didn't have any (can you believe that!) All sounds good. The egg size is ok. I think mine wasn't much bigger.
I am sure you will be fine - just take it easy and get plenty of rest in the evenings.
How many days are you now? You must be near testing. All I can say is best of luck and don't worry if you feel like you are coming on I did every minute and then I tested positive.
fingers crossed for you - you deserve it.
PS By the way it doesn't get any easier when you are pregant. I have to have tests done for abnormalities now that I am 12 weeks and really worried but we decided whatever they show we will accept it and have the baby no matter what.

Happy to hear from you.
I've been having AF symptoms, no boobs sore but cramps.  Yesterday, i tested and it was negative so i'm waiting for AF to come and getting myself ready for my 4th IUI ( mentally and organize days off ).  A few days ago i was very moody and irritated, but i'm more calm now and face things better.

I know that once got pregnant, that is not the end but the journey just starting for more worries and feeling out of control.  I'll pray for you and wishing you all the best.

Take care and don't worry too much.

Hi my results came back normal so thank god I can relax!

I am sorry to hear you think your coming on - that is very frustrating I am sure especially as you seem to be doing everything you can be doing.
Have you thought how many IUI's will you do before moving on to IVF? Also if you do come on then have you had any feedback from the doc as to why they think its not working? Cause from memory you don't have any problems right? I mean structural ones etc.
Anyway you could still be pregnant so hang in there. you never know. I thought I was going to murder most people in any given day at work in my early weeks so you never know!

take care and fingers crossed :)

Hi tivey,

Good to hear good news from you.  You can enjoy the rest of 6 months and the excitement when the baby due.  Do you want to know the gender?

I was discussing with my Dr and we came to term that after 6-8 months if i still don't get preg then IVF is the next option.
I asked my Dr last time why an't i fell preg since i'm very regular 28 days, no other problem ( as far as i know), healthy, don't drink, don't smoke and not over weight. But he told my the successful rate of IUI is upto 20% so he told me "hang in there and it will happen".  I also asked him about the quality of sperm, 2MU/0.1ml ====>that's ok

Last time, during implantation, i was very busy ( we had 4 days off as Easter public holidays in Australia and also i had 3 days off prior to it) so i was stress and on the move from 7dpo till 12dpo.  In your opnion, that's not good for implantation right?  This time, i will take days off or reduce hours from 7dpo -12 dpo.  What do you think?

That's all i can do, the rest let's God decides.

Thanks for your support and caring
Take care

Hi,
I am a new comer and was just following your posts. Best of luck to you Chuotcon. I had a question should you do IUI before IVF. I am 40 and my OB suggested the best is go IVF. I am scheduled for laproscopy next week to remove a Fib on the lining and clip one follibian tube. So after that I can do IVF. But it is pretty expensive I really want to be a  mom. So should do IUI first as it is cheaper it seems.

Thanks for the advice.

Hi addis09: how long have you been trying?  Are there any other problems apart from age factor?

The reason i choose IUI because it less expensive and less medications involved ( only hcg trigger shot) but in 6 months time if my tummy still flat then i'll do IVF because the sucessful rate of IUI is much less than IVF ( 40-50% cf to 10-20%).
