We have gotten some of our results back... I tested positive for one copy of the C677T mutation and one copy of the A1298C mutation or Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), with hyperhomocysteinemia. Can anyone explain this in Laymens' terms?
We know have been referred to a genetic counselor, for what exactly I am not sure.
For my next round though, my ER wants to start me on Lovenox.
We are still waiting for our chromosome tests results, and should know those by Thursday...
I'm sorry they found this, i was hoping everything would turn out good... I did a Google search about it here's the website, scroll down to where it says "Additional Information" I think it might explain about the early p/g losses. You'll have to delete the spaces when you paste it into your browser. Let me know if you need anything... :)
alaskacouple-
I'm sorry to hear about your bloodwork. It sounds like you have what I have. I am also compound heterozygous MTHFR ( meaning I have one copy of C677T and one copy of A1298C.). My homocysteine levels are good though. My Dh and I also saw a genetic counselor and they told us it is pretty common
and should be nothing to worry about. I've been to 2 RE's and they both say that. I have to tell you though that I have had 2 early m/c so I'm starting to wonder. With my last pregnancy (which was a possible molar pregnancy) I took a baby aspirin
acid and b vitamins). My doctors do not want to put me on Heparin when I become pregnant again...Have you had a m/c before? To be honest the MTHFR thing is hard to explain partly b/c I don't understand it that well myself. It has to do with the way your body can absorb folic
The last two ivf cycles we have gone through have ended in early m/c's - hence the reason for all the bloodwork. With the last ivf cycle, I was also taking a baby aspirin
acid and b vitamins - I have read others with the same condition that have had successful pregnancies with the extra intake of folic and b.
So far my ER wants me to start Lovenox (similar to heparin) for the next ivf cycle.
alaska- I'm sorry to hear about your m/cs. I have also had 2 m/cs in the past year. I'm with you on the Heparin or Lovenox I've heard of people taking it. It's just that my RE's don't consider it a problem so I don't even think I could get it prescribed to me. I just feel like they think 2 m/cs is common...like that's supposed to make me feel any better. Let me know how your appointment goes. Good luck!
I think I would talk with your ER and request or demand a blood thinner. Do you have a general physician you work with? You may be able to request it from them. And, being as you have had multiple m/c (losses) your doctor should be able to do blood work and prescribe the meds and bill it to insurance.
LOL I was thinking the same way, how appropriate :)
alaskacouple: Just wanted to brighten your day. It's nice to hear that there are a few of us here that have the same experience so you can talk to them. Hugs to you
