Hi ladies I have been looking through my books & am listing really harmful ones these should not be used at all throughout treatment & pregnancy:
these all have safety precautions for pregnancy: Basil, Black pepper, Carrot seed, Cedarwood, Citronella, Clary sage, Fennel, Grapefruit, Hyssop, Jasmine, Juniper, Marjoram, Melissa, Myrhh, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sage, Spanish sage, Spearmint, Thyme, Yarrow,Ylang Ylang.
There are some that are safe throughout pregnancy but only after 3 months, my tutor told me only to use mandarin & tangerine oils.
Lavender is a good one for later on(after 3 months) but if any of you are having massage your therapist should ask you if you are pregnant or trying to conceive.. There are also oils that help with labour Jasmine is one so if we all manage to get pg this year (fingers crossed) I will list them for you all.
I am just staying away from all of them except mandarin & tangerine to be safe.
hope this helps
Chrissie
I am so grateful you posted this, as I use pure peppermint and lavender oils regularly in the bath to relieve muscle pain and stress, as well as eucalyptus oil for sinus congestion. I went to massage therapy school many years ago, and learned how healing pure essential oils can be, but never thought about potential harm!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for enlightening us!!!
This info is so informative, would you be able to send me a list of the really harmful stuff as well.
Thank You so much.
HI Chrissie,
This was very useful...thank you. I have massages every month and my masseuse does use pure essential (my fav lavendar and geranium) oils. I will be cautious. Thanks again.
hi hon
That should be fine as sounds like its a pre blend, not a pure essential oil.
Pure essential oils would be, tea tree, lavender, jasmin(big no no)
geranium, lemongrass, black pepper, sandalwood, etc there are so many just stay away from any pure oils or bath stuff containing essential oils.
i just wanted people to be aware, coz it is something you could harmlessly do & it might cause problems.
Alot of hospitals are using more holistic therapies & they include aromatherapy, the oils are pretty strong & shouldnt be used by anyone not qualified.
I will email you a list of stuff that is really bad, just about to go for another blood test
Speak later

chrisie, im so glad you mentioned this im addicted to burning scented oils and never knew they could be harmfull at the min im using a festive berry one from the body shop is that alright or should i stop using it.talk to you soon xx
Hi candles should be ok, & to be honest alot of oils you buy over the counter are not as pure as one you might get from a health shop or beauty salon. By burning the oils you inhale through your olfactory system (nose & brain) your pituitary gland is in your brain, its the main gland that secretes our hormones, & as some of them are hormone balancers as well it may interfere with the treatment.(sorry if that sounds a bit double dutch)
I burn a lot of oils & have massage & use different products but have stopped as doing my first IVF cycle, I think just to be on the safe side dont use them. The amount in a candle will be so small that I wouldnt worry just dont burn pure essential oil.
It depends which oil it is, some you cannot use at all throughout pregnancy as is toxic to baby, some cause uterus contractions, they are all different.
I went into college last night & my tutor said whilst going through IVF or fertilty treatment I should treat it as if pregnant so the only two oils not harmful at this stage are mandarine or tangerine.
After 3 months pg there are a lot more you can use, just be careful, you dont want a simple thing like not using them to effect anything.
Some essential oils tell you on label not to use if pregnant, have epilepsy, high blood pressure etc.
The thing is the place you buy them from if a good store should give you a list that tells you precautions, if you are worried about any in particular let me know & I will look them up as have all the books
hope that helps
Chrisie
Thanks for the info. I would never think of that. So burning scented oils can be harmful? Is there a certain component that makes it harmful and I wonder if they list their components on the bottle.
Do you know anything about scented candles?
I have all of these items around the house just got a new one a bottle with oil where you put the stick in, I keep it in the bathroom. Hmm now I'm concerned.
Thanks again for the info.
