small gestational sac and small for grstational age

I had my first ultrasound on Jan 22nd.  The ultrasound tech. was able to find a normal heartbeat at 120bpm but told me that the fetal pole was measuring small.  At the ultrasound I was 7w2d but the fetal pole measured 6w2d.  I was also informed that the gestational sac was measuring smaller than the fetal pole.  I was told to try to be optimistic but guarded in my optimism.  I have read several other cases like this online and was hoping that someone could share some additional information with me.  Are they ever wrong in cases like this?  I have had no spotting and mild morning sickness throughout the pregnancy thus far.  Most of what I have read in relation to this problem have been sad stories.  Anyone have a glimmer of hope to share?  I would also like to hear about your story if I has a not so happy ending.  I am trying to prepare myself for the worst in the event it turns out that way.    Thanks!

I didn't have the exact same problem, but during my first pregnancy - at about 6-7 wks, my baby's heart rate was around 113, the yolk sac was too big and a funny shape - not round.  All signs pointed towards an impending m/c and I was terrified for a few days until my next US which showed a normal size/shaped yolk sac and FHR at 140s.  My baby is now 2!  Hope that gives you some hope.  Keep us posted.  Good luck to you - it's such an awful feeling.

Thank so much.  It is nice to hear a story that does not end in doom and gloom.  It is going to be a long week and a half until my next ultrasound.
