Fertility and Soy Protein

by tal1014, May 18, 2009 02:26PM
I recently read an article that says sor protein can effect a women's fertility.  I have been dieting since Jan 1 and the foods that I needed to eat were from CT Weight and Wellness.  All items were Soy Protein.  Is it possible that this can be a cause of my not getting pregnant?  I am wondering how true the article was.  Thank you.

Hi!
I think what they are getting at in the article  is that soy proteins can act like the female hormone estrogen.  Many women who are suffering from post menopausal symptoms find that soy helps alleviate their symptoms.  I suppose if it were taken in large quantities, it could have an effect on fertility.
We know for sure that a high BMI reduces fertility, so you will have to balance the two problems.  If the products that you are using are working for you, I would recommend that you continue them.  If they are going to affect your fertility, you should notice a change in your periods.  As long as you are having regular periods, you are probably OK.
Good luck!

Hi Dr.,

I just needed someone to express this to... I want to become  pregnant but I'm overweight and do not eat according to an appropriate diet.  Could this be the reason I am not conceiving?  Recently the pattern in my cycles has changed as well... I'm scared... Please help.
