Functional cyst and no period

by Miranda9, Jun 19, 2009 02:35PM
I was diagnosed with a functional cyst on my right ovary in May.  I had mid-cycle bleeding that turned into a regular period (according to my hormone levels).  Now it's been 44 days since my last period. I have been having PMS symptoms for the past month, as well as bloating and headaches.  3 HPTs all came back negative.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?  It is completely stressing me out.  Prior to this I always had regular 27-28 day cycles.

HI!
A functional cyst means one that is producing hormones.  If a cyst is producing hormones, it will often delay your period until it resolves or ruptures.  I hope your doctors have made some sort of follow up plan with you!  Is the cyst gone?  Or if you are not sure, do you have another appointment coming up for an ultrasound?
If you ARE under a doctor's care for the cyst (I hope so!) you could call the doctor and request something to start your cycle (like Prometrium or Provera) Sometimes doctors will even suggest putting women who suffer from ovarian cysts on birth control for awhile to regulate their cycles, and reduce the incidence of new cysts popping up.
I hope this helps!
Good luck!
