Hystroscopy

Hello,

I had myomectomy three months ago to remove my fibroids. I have an appointment with my RE in two weeks to discuss IVF and he wants to do water sonogram first. I asked him if hysteroscopy is needed but he said no. Just wanted to ask your opinion and see if you recommend the same for your patients. I heard hysteroscopy is better option since I had a surgery and they can see clearly if everything looks good.

Thanks,

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would probably start out with ultrasound.   I would perform a saline ultrasound -- using sterile saline to distend the endometrial cavity for better visualization.  Depending upon the ultrasound findings, I might or might not move to hysteroscopy next.  There is no definite reason NOT to do hysteroscopy, but it might not be necessary.  Ultrasound technology is amazing these days, and it can be used to evaluate the entire uterus tubes and ovaries, not just the endometrium.  Hysteroscopy is limited to the endometrium.

Hope this helps!
