Myomectomy!

Myomectomy!

Hello,

I miscarried my twin three months ago when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I have fibroids which the biggest one is 5cm and they are all located outside of my cavity except one which is in the wall pushing my uterus. Now my doctor thinks that the cause of my miscarriage was my fibroid since he can't find anything else but I didn't have any complications during my pregnancy and he said that fibroids are way away from the baby and doing great. My water just broke one night and by the time that we got to the hospital, there was no heartbeat.

Now my myomectomy is scheduled for next month and I'm really scared of the possible complications that my doctor told me. Damaging my tubes or leaving scar tissues.

What would you recommend for your patient and if the surgery is the case, is it possible to remove the scar tissues after myomectomy? and what are the chances of getting pregnant after this?

Thank you very much!

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would definitely discuss myomectomy with you.  I personally would probably only go after the biggest fibroid and/or which seems to be the one within the wall of the uterus.  There are some risks associated with the surgery, and it seems your doctor has discussed those with you which is his job.  Truthfully, the risks are probably low enough to justify the surgery (which should be the case with any surgery!). There are several types of adhesion barriers that can be used at surgery to help reduce the risk of scar tissue formation, and I would probably chose one of those (Seprafilm, Interceed, etc)  I would probably also try to place my incision into the uterus carefully.  Finally good surgical technique is important in reducing the risks.  I suspect that your chances of a successful pregnancy following the surgery are quite good!
Good luck!

I have a similar problem with fibroids. I haven't gotten pregnant yet; but my RE thinks that there are 2 fibroids that can be problematic if I do get pregnant. I too have been a little scared, but with the advance in technology my RE feels that the risks are minimal at this time. My RE suggests a robotic myomectomy procedure with minimal cutting & a quicker recovery.

I hope every thing works out well for you, good luck

Thank you so much and I wish the same for you too. I'm scheduled for my surgery next month  and I really don't have other choice cause I don't want to miscarry again. I don't think mine will be robotic cause I'll be staying in the hospital for 3 days and will be a old fashion myomectomy but I can ask my doctor. Good luck to you too.
