I wouldn't know what to say either but just wanted to lend you some support. I've been there in having to make very difficult decisions where $$'s concerned and procedures & it's yucky to say the least. I had no idea that the follie would 'travel' to the other side - learn something new everyday!
Hannah, just wanted to wish you SSBD big time w/no matter what you decide!! - jen
I only have one tube due to ectopic pg. My dr says that it doesn't matter cause you only need one tube regardless of which side the follie comes from. He says that there are these things that look like tiny fingers that basically grab onto the egg to get it to the tube. Anyway I talked to a friend the other night who has had 5 pregnancies and 3 births all with only one tube. So I say if you wanna go for it then go for it. SSBD to you in whatever you decide.
That sux that your ins. wont cover that!!! Mine covered all of mine, but they were done by my reg. OBGYN, and the bill just said in ofice surgical procedure? I wonder if there is a different way they could bill it to have ins. pick it up? IDK. I would have a hard time re-scheduling.....but it is making your chances go way down. But there is always a chance. Good Luck whatever you decide!!!! *****SSBD******
I don't know what I would do in that situation. I mean on one hand if there is the slightest chance you don't want to cancel, but then if it's not going to work, why waste the money and get your hopes up again? My luck would be if I go through with it I would get a BFN but if I canceled I probly would have just canceled my last chance. I say go through with it, but do as if you are just going through the motions. I had a freind who was doing IUI and the lab dropped the vials of sperm barley leaving enough to do the IUI and her husband had none left so this was very bad. She truely believed her final chance was gone. She even went out to eat and went shopping straight from the clinic on the day of her IUI. She just went about her life like nothing happened. 2 weeks later she tested because the clinic told her to and much to her suprise she got a BFP. She is now 5 1/2 months PG and she strongly believes it's because she didn't think about it. She just assumed it wouldn't work and it was all over. My suggestion is try to act as if it's no big deal either way and don't stress so you won't get let down. It will probly happen this month.
My RE says the illustrations you see of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes is spread out like Y for purpose of being able to illustrate the anatomy in 2D, but that in actuality, everything is much more compressed and the fallopian tubes and ovaries hang more like an hunched over orangutan.. He claims, if you are missing a tube, the follicle from the opposite ovary will travel to the remaining tube. He claims my chances are the 'same' whether the follicle is on my left or right ovary. I find this hard to believe tho. I have googled the subject many times and EVERYTHING I've read says it is possible, but rare. I have also had a total of 4 IUIs. The first IUI, I still had both tubes, and got pg. It turned out to be ectopic, and I lost my right tube. We'll call this the bad side. The 2nd IUI the mature follie was on the bad side and I got BFN. The 3rd IUI the follie was on the good side, and I got BFP. The fourth IUI the follie was on the bad side and I got BFN.
So in summary
IUI on Good side: 100% success
IUI on Bad side: 0% success
so i have a hard time believing his claims. dh and i discussed it and have decided to try one more time. but after this we will only do iui on the good side.
thanks for the help ladies... keep your fingers crossed for me!
I learn something new everyday on here. So if your tube is gone, im trying to picture this and i cant, the egg will go to the other tube, how is that. Why are women so in shock when they think they cant get preggo if a tube is gone, mayb they dont no that info. I woould go with your gut feeling, and as the RE said you have 50/50 chance. But could you please shed a little light on me about how the follicle will go to other side.
Go with what your gut tells you to do and also ask your did what they think. My RE said the chance for twins on Clomid is about 10% and Anthony more drops considerably from there. Hey, how's your lil peanut? Such a cutie pie!
Hugs,
Sue
I guess I would have to try and figure out whether I want to pay the $300 and that would depend on how long my cycles are. If you have relatively normal and more shorter cycles then you won't have too long to wait. But some woman have very long cycles so that would be a different story. Me myself, I would LOVE twins but I understand your dilemma. My kids are grown so I'd love to only have to carry once and get the two kids I want right now.
I hope you don't have a hard time making up your mind.
Trish
oh i didn't know the follicle could go down the other tube. then i don't think you should cancel the IUI. but with the chances so slim for multiples with clomid i would try it. like you said...you don't want to wait any longer!
gl
The tube isn't blocked, it is completely missing so my RE claims that my chances are equal no matter what side the mature follie is on, because it will travel to the only existing tube. We do use hcg trigger shot, but have not been using clomid because I have a young son who is almost 7 months old and was concieved from IUI. Since he is still so young we really don't want twins... i think that would just be overwhelming. Because of mine and DH's ages and previous infertility problems, we don't want to wait.
seems to me, even though it is a hard decision, that it is a no brainer. if there is a follie on the side with no tube, how would you get pregnant anyway? am i missing something? save that money for next month when it will happen!! also, the chance for multiple births on clomid is only about 8% for twins. depending on how long you've been trying, it might be worth the risk.
good luck!
You should defenitly use clomid or injectables and trigger shots will doing IUI. The chance for multiples is really low with clomid. Your best chances are to have as many mature follies as you can and to hope that one shows up on the good side and bursts from there. I wouldn't even waste the money if the only mature follicle is on your blocked side. Good luck
