CD 12/follicle size/ need advice!!!!!!

Hi guys,

I have been taking follistim 150 iu nightly.  ( plus an extra 50 the past few days) Saturday I had 1 follicle at 11 and others too small to measure. Today I have 3. Size 13 on right side, 14&15 on left size. Office just called and said to only take 75 (1/2 or reg dose) tonight and come in tomorrow then I will probubly be ready.  Dr said they need to be 16-18 but I have heard 18-20. I want the all 3 to be mature. I think I am going to take 100 iu tonight. What do you think???  HELP!!!!!!!!

I just got back from the dr and the two on my left are 16&18 and the one on the right is only 14. They will call when they get my bw back but said I will probubly do the ovidrell tonight and iui first thing Friday am.

My intention wasn't to increase the meds. My sister accidently squirted out some of the medication so i took an extra 50 to make sure that I got a full dose. I wasn't able to contact my RE because of the long weekend and I was affraid of what  a fluctuation in dose would do so I continued the extra 50 until yesterday.

I go back to get more bw and sono today. Keeping my fingers crossed that my little follies are doing good.

First of all, there is NO way I'd ever self-medicate myself! If your dr. decided on specific dosage, you need to trust him or... change doctors...

I also have PCOS and unfortunately IUIs did not work for me. My problem was opposite of yours - I kept over-responding to meds and producing too many follicles thus increasing the risk of higher order multiples and OHSS. After 4 failed IUIs, I finally resorted to IVF and the first one worked. If it were me, I'd try as many times as I could afford, but that's always a very personal decision. Best of luck :)

OMG Thank God you did not "overdose"! as jen says: you can actually mature them too much and loose them. Always follow the protocol and what they say..... you can caused hyperstimulation and other medical complications.

Last time I got preggo was on a 2nd cycle. I went right back into it after the BFN and it worked -  I m/c but it did work. I would definately try again right away if you can :) good luck girly!

OK I will do what they say, my Insurance will cover 2 more cycles if this one doesn't work.

I have PCOS. I am doing IUI, I tried clomid for about 6 months before and 1 round of IUI about 2.5 yesr ago with no sucess. Clomid did NOTHING and I did O with Gonal-F but It took a long time and I only got one follicle on 225 iu. I did the south beach Diet and lost about 60 lbs and am trying it again. First time using Follistim. I am just scared that I won't get these results next time.

Also...... would you guys try again next month if you were me? That way I wont have to take prometrium to bring on another cycle and I am thinking that by body will already know what to do! Do you work up a tollerence to the medication???

Are they checking your blood too not just the size? Your estrogen may have surged and a growth spurt is on the way. They know what they are doing :)

Jenn- let me explain why I said the above: if you "juice" them too fast, you may actually lose one or two. I have had to happen to me before. One day they are there and the next I take the usual dose (high dose) and then one or two go bye-bye...So, do the 75iu tonight and see what tomorrow shows. Good luck girly!

Is this your first time on Follistim? If it is I wouldn't bump it up yet. I would do what they say tonight and see what kind of impact it has on them. Then you can think of bumping it tomorrow if it showed little or no progress.

Mine are smaller at the time of maturity.  I think mine last month were only 14 and they really wanted them to be 20+ with an oral medicated cycle.  My RE says that with injectables they want the follicle size to be around 16-18 before scheduling the HCG trigger shot but with the oral medicated cycles it should be over 20.  

Are you doing IVF or IUI this cycle?


I'm on my 2nd cycle of clomid and this cycle I had more follicles so I'm hoping they might get bigger this cycle.
