Abstaining before iui. Please ease my mind! :)

Here's my situation.  Dh has been sick & we haven't bd'd since last week.  As soon as I get my +opk, we'll go in the next morning for iui & were told to abstain that night.  Is it okay if we go straight to iui without bd'ing first?  I thought I heard somewhere that we'd have to bd at least once before abstaining, otherwise the sample he gives for our iui may not be as good.  Am I just worrying for nothing!?

Yeah, I'm glad I don't have to worry about it now.  What a relief!  I read that if you abstain too long, then go for iui, the motility may not be too good.  So, now I'm hoping for a +opk tomorrow!  Thanks again for your help.  I appreciate it!  I hope your dh feels better soon!

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't answer your question...sorry about that.  I was going to respond that I would not bd the night before an IUI, even if you haven't in a week.  I would think that it would have more of a negative impact of doing it right before the IUI than a positive impact even if it has been a week.  I am glad you are not going in for the IUI tomorrow, so now you can bd and everything will be just fine!!!  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!  By the way, my husband is sick too and still has to work:(

Thanks!  No, it's not too late ;)  After all that stress this morning, I ended up with a negative opk!  So, we'll definitely bd tonight & go from there.  Yay, I feel like I'm back in this! :)  Thanks again!!!

Thanks!  Your iui is not far away :)  I'm excited for you, too!!!  My problem is that since we haven't bd'd in a week & I might go in for my iui tomorrow, should we go ahead and bd tonight even though we're supposed to abstain the night before the iui?  I go in the morning after I get my +opk, so it's possible that I could get it tonight.  I feel bad for dh.  He's been so sick & still has to work 12-hour days, so he's pooped by the time he gets home & stuffed up & sneezing on top of it.  I don't want to push it, but I'm not sure if we should go ahead & bd tonight or just wait...  Thanks again & good luck to you, too!!!

We take a trigger shot which is different but we are told that dh should at least ejaculate  or you can bd the night of the trigger, which would be two nights before the IUI.  So if our IUI was scheduled for a Thursday morning, we would bd on Tuesday night and take the trigger shot, and do nothing Wed. or Thurs.  In yoru case I would say to abstain for two or three days.  Remember that the sperm can live inside us for I believe two to three days so I think it is a good idea to bd sometime before the IUI(or ovulation) because it increases your chances of getting pregnant.  I hope this helps.  These things can be complicated and confusing.  I am excited for you...good luck!!!  I am cd5, third day of Gonal F.  IUI should be around Jan. 18.

Thanks.  So, if we have abstained for more than 5 days, would you suggest that if I get my positive opk tonight, we abstain again before going in for iui tomorrow?  Or should we bd since we haven't in a week?  Ugh!
