Considering adoption and possibly an older child

Question

Rob and I have a lot of research to do after the New Year. We're going to put in for adoption and will look into possibly adopting a child that's older. I'm not sure how I feel about a child older than maybe 3 or 4. We really really want a baby, but maybe adopting an older child is what we're meant to do. 

Just wanted to share our new adventure with you girls. I'll be busy making a ton of phone calls and putting the word out. I'll keep everyone up on the process. 

On another note, I'm 1 dpo and excited. I hate the tww but am glad to be in it!

I would love to find out we're pg this month but we're still going to have the talk. I'm 4 dpo today and looking forward to at least 20 dpo to test. I still think 12 dpo is better but will sucumb to my addiction a couple days earlier, I'm sure! 

We're heading back to Boston tomorrow morning. I cried when we said goodbye to one of my sil and my wonderful niece. I've never cried when saying goodbye to them before. It was very sad. I cried in the car after, too. I think we may move back here sometime sooner than later. 

Rob got me the most beautiful sapphire and diamond necklace for Christmas. I just love it. Maybe I'll post a pic. 

I'm going to go now and work on a sweater I'm knitting.

My sister adopted a 2.5 and a 5 year old last year.  so far everything is going wonderful. The children are an absolute joy.  Wish you the very best with which ever way you decide. It is a very exciting thing you are doing, and I'm very happy for you!!  Congrats.

I have always wanted to adopt. I was adopted and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was an 8 day old little peanut when my parents brought me home. I was my brother's birthday present. He was adopted 3 years earlier. I am so lucky to have been brought up in a household filled with so much love. Now I want to pay it forward and give love whether it be an infant or an older I don't really know how Rob feels about adopting an older child. We will start our talk in a few days. We drive back to Boston on Sunday, my birthday is Monday (41!) so we may wait until after to sit down and talk. I'm looking forward to the discussion, but a bit nervous about our possible differing ideas. Whatever the outcome of the talk, I'll let you girls know what's going on!

I tell you what, our little foster child is a huge blessing to us!  She won't be up for adoption until next month, but I can't imagine anything else!  Besides, I was just telling my dh "a seven year old girl is so much easier than a baby".  It works for us and she is getting a loving home.  You seem to have such a loving, nurturing personality, you'd probably do really well!  Please, please keep in touch  and let me know what is going on in your life!  Hugs and good luck!

I tried foster
In my county you have to be a foster to adopt a baby - and I could not afford private adoption
I loved helping the kids - but I hated letting them go!

Those people will be lining up to give you babies just because you are so awesome! :) You will see. I still think you will get preggo right before or right after you adopt :) I am so excited for you to be moving in this direction! YAY! You are going to be the best momma ever! Lori0615: I love the idea of adopting siblings but Boston is an extremely expensive place to live and we can't afford a place big enough for 2 kids. And we're dealing with a new financial challenge. But, I wish we could do it. I think it would be amazing.

I can understand the thought of not wanting an older one but saying you are willing to take an old child could give you a family. Alot of times they will have a baby and a 3-7 year old together. My sister is a foster parent and she got a 6 month old and 3 year old that our biological sisters.

Sue, I wish you all the best of luck!!!! I am very glad that you have considered adoption, I know that there  is a child out there that would LOVE to have you as his/her Mommy, but with this being said, I KNOW you will have a child on your own.  I just hope that both come at the same time and your life will be filled with new craziness!!!!! 

Your heart is big enough to handle this.... go for it girl!!!!!
