Can LH surge be absent ?

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I would like to know if anyone can help me with my below query.

I am taking the LH surge test thru the OPK and would like to know if it is possible due to harmonal imbalance the LH surge does not take place at all?

Thanks

Hi Heather,

Thank you for your detail info.
I have still not detected LH surge. I have irregular cycles varying from day 23 to 33 to 50 and also I get mid cycle bleeding around day 12-16CD.
At the moment my mid cycle bleeding started on 16CD accompanied with breast tenderness, lowback pain. The bleeding is heavy and blood is red.I will be going to my RE next week for tests but I checked on 16CD and there was no LH surge. I am wondering if this is an anovulatory cycle or what. Its so frusterating specially when I am TTC.
Due to mid cycle bleeding, I am suspecting harmonal imbalance as the u/s of uterus showed normal uterus and even HSG test showed normal uterus and clear tubes.

It is possible, but if there's no LH surge, there's no ovulation. The egg is only released once the surge has taken place. Are you wondering because you havent detected a surge yet? If so, what cycle day are you today and how long are your cycles normally?

There could be a few different reasons you haven't gotten a surge:

1. You could be one of the people who have problems detecting a surge even though you do in fact have one. (Some women just can't seem to detect it.)

2. You might be having an anovulatory cycle. If there's no egg maturing, there won't be a surge.

3. You might have a short surge, and if so, if you test once a day (which most people do), you might miss it. For example, you could get a faint line one morning, then miss the actual surge that night, and then test again the following morning and get another faint line.

4. The last reason I can think of is that you just haven't detected it yet, because you've tested too early. Some women ovulate later in their cycles than the "normal" day 14.

Also, since you mentioned hormonal imbalance, have you had any blood tests done at your doctors? If so, what were the results?
