D & C

Hello...

It's been a long time I have asked any question or made a post. I am still struggling to get pregnant. Well....in our journey we found out that my husband had some issues with his count....so he went ahead and had a varicocele surgery. The surgery seems to have increased the counts but motility and morphology have not increased drastically though there is a slight increase in it. My question is my obgyn is recommending I have a d & c. I have never ever been pregnant before therefore....no miscarriages. I don;t understand why is my obgyn recommending I get a d & c? Please if some one could guide me on this issue....I would be grateful. Thanks a lot.....this website has helped me clear lot of my doubts.

I understand that everyones experience is different, but why would you want to take the chance you "being 1 it goes wrong with" when there is no reason for it?  Yes, you could do the dnc and everyting turn out perfectly, but, you could also do the dnc and have complications.  You have never been pregnant, and have never had a m/c.  You situation is so different from others.  I just cannot fathom that in this instance that a dnc is the answer.  I would overturn every other rock before even intertaining this idea. Then, I would still think twice about it. A dnc is surgery to your uterus.  Why would you do surgery to a working functions perfectly normal uterus???  It would be like have 20/10 vision, and an eye doctor recommending you have laser eye surgery get to 20/20... It  just doesn't make since, period.

I am sorry I am so passionate on this subject.  I have just seen so much heartache from what dnc's can do.  You only have 1 uterus.  It is your fertility. Please, Protect it!!!

D&C should only be done if there is a very clear and compelling reason for it.  There can be complications.

Else go for IUI, it often works very well for male factor infertility.

I am not sure about the d&c either but agree with globetrot -- what's the point?  I would meet with a fertility specialist as well before you decide.  My husband had low sperm count, morphology, and motility but we were able to conceive via an IUI along with me taking Femara (I had some ovulation issues) & he took a multi-vitamin and another supplement for anti-oxidants.  We even conceived the very first time we did an IUI, even with his count being fairly low after we'd been trying for over 3 years.  Just ask more questions & if you still feel hesitant about the d&c, don't do it, I've never heard of anyone having to do that just to get pregnant.  Good luck!

I do not know about the d&c- other than I do not think you should have a surgery that you do not know what it is for.  Have you met with an RE?  You might get a second opinion.

But there are things your dh can do to help his swimmers.  They put my dh on vitamins and extra folic acid.  Tons of research online- but I would also talk to your Dr about that.

Actually I have had 3 d&cs.  2 for m/cs and 1 because my RE said my lining was way too thick one of the reasons (there were other reasons also but that wasnt helping)  I was having probs getting pg.  I have had no scarring or problems what so ever. I have 3 healthy kids and my 3rd child was conceived the cycle after my d&c.  I think everyones experience is different.  Just make sure your dr. Is experienced and u trust them and research them.  Make the decision that is right for u.  Good luck to u.

No no no no no no no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Do noy have a dnc for NO reason!  Is he crazy?!?  I would almost be tempted to tell you to run as fast as you can from this doc!  That is absolutely crazy!!!!!  So many things can go wrong after a dnc!  You could end up infertile!!!  Please here me screaming in this post!!!ugh!  He could cause scar tissue, he could puncture your uterus,he could cause an infection...so many things!  Have they ran any test on you. A sonohystogram? An hsg?   Please I am begging of you! There is no reason for a dnc!!!they even tell women who are m/c ing to avoid a dnc if at all possible.  Please go to this website and look at it... PLEASE!  dncnow.com.  If I havent talked you out od it, this site will.  Btw... I have had 3 sureries to remove the scarring that 1 dnc has causes.
