HSG next week..

So after our 2nd failed IUI my RE wants to do an HSG next week it will be cd10.  Any advice?  I'm pretty nervous that it's going to be painful.  I was okay with the first BFN from IUI, who gets pregnant on the first round anyway.  But this time it was really upsetting.  We have been ttc now for 3yrs and 5 months I really hope the HSG helps.  Again any advice or your experience would help ease my anxiety, that's all I need one more thing to stress about.  Thanks ladies SSBD.....

Thank you all for your encouragement, I will take ibuprofen an hour before and try to relax.  DH is going with me so i'm hoping it wont be too bad.
BeeHappy76 it's funny that your doc said that, I definitely read a lot of horror stories I think that's the only reason that i'm scared.
Thank you all for the support it's nice to talk to people who have gone through it.

i actually had 2 HSG's. The first one was a piece of cake but the 2nd one was a little tough. The dr prescribed me a valium just in case but i didn't take it because i felt it was so easy the first time (also was told to take ibuprofen and an antibiotic). It's really not that bad tho. You will feel some cramping as the dr pushes the dye through but it really doesn't last long. You may feel a little crampy/bloated after the procedure but that quickly goes away in a day.  Good luck!!!

I was really nervous and even cancelled my 1st appt b/c I was too nervous to go. I asked my RE if he could prescribe me something bc I was so nervous about it being painful. I usually have very low pain tolerance. He gave me 1 valium to take an hour before the appt, and said also take 800 mg ibuprofen an hour before as well. He also had me take an antibiotic a few days before and after the procedure, just in case.

The procedure was totally not as bad as I thought it would be. The MD doing it was kind of joking with me bc I said I heard it was very painful and he said "You've been reading on-line, haven't you? I don't know what it says online, but so many women come in here terrified and then leave saying it was not as bad as they expected." I know everyone has a different experience. For me it did hurt for a second when they dialated my cervix to put in the catheter, but it really only lasted for a second. Then there was a little bit of cramping when they put in the dye, but just like mild period cramps. They let me watch the x-ray on a little tv screen and it was actually pretty interesting to see how everything looks inside. My DH came with me and I was glad he was there to hold my hand. Good luck!

Hi there,
I had an HSG a 2 of weeks back and it was no worse than a smear test. I advise you to take a strong pain killer about an hour before you go in. I was also given a relaxant by my RE. It;s nothing to worry about and many fall pregnant soon after!!!
Good luck to you, Im currently waiting to see if its done the trick and I get a BFP!!!
