Timing for IUI and number of follicles

Hello!  I am 38 and have a 3 year old daughter naturally.  But have been trying again for a year now.  I had a blocked tube which has been cleared and we found some issues with my husbands motility and morphology.  This is my first month on clomid days 5-9.  I had ultrasound on Wed (day 10) and they saw 4 follicles (two on each side).  I am to take trigger on Sun (day 14) and IUI on Tues (day 16).  Just wondering if this timing is normal.  Thinking they prob would have had me come in on Monday but its Memorial Day.  I am also concerned about the number of follicles.  I have read on a number of other sites that drs have cancelled IUIs for patients that have 4 follicles because they felt there were too many.  I am very nervous about multiples!  Any advice or comments would be very much appreicated!

Hi,

I was on clomid to get the three follicles, I took 50 mg from day 2 - 6.

Clomid makes you feel more crampy than usual (in my experience), particularly the second half of the cycle.

If you feel like you are going to ovulate, you definitely should bd - follow their advice.  Make sure you organism (after him) to help pull the sperm in.  Lie there with you butt slightly raised to give good access for the sperm to get through.  Don't know if it will help, but it definiltey won't hurt.

you should "O" 36 hours after the trigger so depending on your RE whether or not they want the swimmers waiting on the eggs or they want the swimmers to seek out the eggs.. 36 hours is the "PRIME" number i have seen but not unusal for 24 hours of trigger for IUI...

Thank you both for your comments.  Looks like the three of us are very similiar in age and circumstances.  My first was also very easy to concieve after only 3 months.  Good luck to both of you with the procedures you just went through!

I really feel like I am going to miss my window with the IUI this month.  I normally have a 29 day cycle.  So I figure I am ovulating on day 14 or 15.  I am already feeling crampy today and its only day 12.  I am on Clomid so i am not sure if that changes when you normally ovulate.  They did tell us to BD tonight and Sunday before the IUI on Tuesday.  But with the issues with his sperm not sure if that would work if I did ovulate earlier.

This is all new to me and causing me to stress a little!  It helps to hear about others that are going through the same thing.

I was just curious if this was a medicated cycle for you or what you were taking to produce 3 follicles.

Hi,

I am 39.  1 daughter naturally and very easily.  No. 2 no luck after 9 months.  Did IUI yesterday.  Had 3 follicles.  Had trigger on day 13 and IUI on day 14.  I was actually already ovulating when they did the IUI, 24 hours after the trigger.

If allowed I would be BD with hubby straight after the trigger (and before).  This way you are maximising chances.  Seeing the trigger is D14, you may even ovulate on  your own before the IUI and if you just wait for the IUI on D16 it may be too late.  What day do you usually ovulate on?

I understand the risk of multiples is actually low. With 3 eggs my obe said there's a good chance of 1, a small chance of 2 and a miniscule chance of 3.  I would think same with you.

You and I have similiar stories. I'm also 38 with an almost 3 yr old that I concieved naturally and easily. We started trying for #2 when he turned 1.   After a yr of trying, I had every test in the book. All was fine. Hubby had fine sperm with a tiny bit low morphology but because he has so much of it , Drs weren't concerned. 6 mos later still not pregnant. Went to see RE. First iui on clmid, I got 4 follies too. It didn't work. 2nd iui, 2 follies. Didn't work. I just did my first ivf and am waiting 2 weeks . Your timing seems fine. Good luck hope Iui works for you!!
