embryonic pole

I had an excess of Prolactin hormone due to which i didnt have my periods for the past 6 months. I was on Bromocriptine medication.  1 week ago, a urine pregnancy test showed positive results.  I had an ultrasound which showed an embryo with cervical length of 38mm.  But the result said that no embryonic pole is seen yet.  My doctor prescribed Pregnyl injection and Proluton Depot which I have taken already.  I want to know what may be the reason behind the embryonic pole not seen yet? Will the injections be effective in helping the development of the pregnancy? what are the side effects of these injections?

I see...well, I think the injections are safe and shouldn't hurt anything, and if your progesterone is low, it might help. However, if the embryo is not developing properly, it probably won't help...unfortunately. Usually, in a case like that, something went wrong when the sperm and egg met and the pregnancy will not progress. BUT, let's hope it's just too early to see anything, and that you'll see both the fetal pole and heartbeat at your next ultrasound! Best of luck!

Thank you so much for the information you gave.  i am relieved to know the injections will be safe.  I have no idea how far i am since i got pregnant without having any period for the past 6 months.  My doctor says an embryo size of 38mm must be around 7 weeks and should have an embryonic pole and even the heartbeat should be detectable.  They can tell u exactly how long the pregnancy is when the crown rump length can be measured.  but none of these is detected yet.  I will be having an ultrasound in another two weeks.  Thats the time my doctor has asked me to wait.  My concern is how likely are these developments to take place with the help of the injections?  Are their effectiveness proven?

I'm assuming you mean they can only see the sac (not embryo)...is that right? If so, it really just depends on how far along you are. If you're less than 6 weeks, you might not see anything but the sac, as the embryonic pole is usually not detected until about 6 weeks.

The injection you're describing is HCG, which is the same hormone your body is producing naturally during pregnancy, and the same goes for Proluton, which is progesterone. A progesterone supplement can help you maintain a pregnancy if your body is not producing enough on its own. They should both be safe.

Best of luck to you! Will you be getting another ultrasound soon?
